SLEEPER Available On Kindle & Excerpt

Yay, Amazon approved of my formatting work :). You don't know how happy that makes me because me = clueless computer techie.

Anyway, SLEEPER is now available on Kindle. Here is the link:

SLEEPER (KINDLE)

Also, to read a funny sexy excerpt of Reed and Lily, SLEEPER is featured as Book of the Day at:

Please help me share the excerpt link! Thank you.

December??! But I'm Not Done With November Yet!

Last night, I loaded up a formatted file of SLEEPER onto my Kindle Author Bookshelf and promptly fell asleep to dream about...hard returns, tabs, and backspace, backspace, backspace. Ugh. Formatting kills creativity :P. And then I woke up and found that it's December already! WTH?!

I'm nowhere near done with the writing goals I told you about a month or two ago. I have this month to finish writing DANGEROUSLY HOT, edit and format PROTECTOR and edit and format Grace's story, which I've re-titled Danger spells T.R.O.U.B.L.E (still might change that). So far, I've accomplished only three of my writing projects--the short story in SEAL of my Dreams, editing Hunter and Sleeper and getting the latter ready for different e-formats. Actually, I'm not even completed the Sleeper formatting yet because there are still Nook, Smashwords and Print formats waiting. Oh yeah, every one of these have different stuff needed done to the manuscript and it all takes time. Which I don't have. Gah.

I'm doing Kindle first because it beats my Nook sales 4-1. Smashwords represents a miniscule of my sales, so that's last. Anyway, did that last night, and I'm going to take a break and go back to writing because it's eating up my whole month. The other formats will have to wait a bit. It's all a learning process for me because I'm computer challenged. At first I had someone doing that for me but she's very busy with her clients and so I thought I'd learn as I go, hoping not to make too many mistakes.

It's a good thing to learn these days because formatting service packages cost about $500 or more, depending on how much work they have to do. My friend charges me a lot less but even that, with the cost of covers, can be expensive for a project. Getting a book ready for different e-formats (different format, cover art, edits) could cost $800. And that's why I can't sell it for 99cts like some people ask me to. It'll take me forever to make back the money I sank into the production, even though I paid less. When the production costs have been taken care of, I'll lower the price, like I did with Big Bad Wolf ebook and print.

So anyway, I was complaining about time. I might not get Grace's book done by the end of the year. It's written but needs a bit of revision and of course, the above formatting pain. I've also been entertaining the thought of creating my own cover, like I did with Big Bad Wolf, to save money. AHAHAHAHA. Maybe not. Looking at thousands of stock photos is fun but damn time-consuming. So's playing with Photoshop!

Dangerously Hot is coming along slowly but I need to speed up. 30 days or less, man! Sylvia Day is a fantastically fast writer and I don't want to disappoint her. We wanted this project done and out around Christmas/New Year to get the new Kindle owners' attention :). At least, for that one, the cover is ready. Did you guys see it?

And here's my new cover for Sleeper:

For those who asked: "why is the book renamed Sleeper? Why didn't I use the original Sleeping With The Agent?" Well, Sleeper was the original title, to go with the one-word "hunter" and "protector" theme, but the Avon marketing department wanted to change the style to use the now prevalent "active title theme." You can see it on the covers of a slew of romantic suspense the last few years (Take Me Tonight, Standing In The Shadows, Show No Mercy, etc.) but back then, it was just* starting to get hot. So I gave the marketing people at least fifty titles like that and they rejected every. single. one. and came up with...Sleeping With The Agent. My readers and friends, at the time, were astounded at how horrifying it was, LOL. I hated it when someone casually asks me about my writing and to give her the title of my newest book. Umm...Sleeping...withtheagent (yes, I said it just like that, heh).

So, now that I'm back in control of my SEAL series, I get to decide whether to abandon the original titles or not. I chose to drop the article in the title, thus "PROTECTOR," "HUNTER," and "SLEEPER." This is so that I can use "WARRIOR" for Cucumber's book (ahhhh...perked your attention, eh?).

Enough about boring production stuff. I'm sure you're all snoring away. I'll post the winner of the Thanksgiving giveaway soon (have to collect all the names from here and Facebook). And will give you another sneak peek excerpt from Dangerously Hot.

Plans, I got plans. Just slow down a bit, December!

International Readers, Non-Kindle, Non-Nook formats

I apologize my past few posts have lately been all links all about buying my books, but my ebook publishing friends and readers keep giving me such great advice and asking for different formats etc.

Do you know about Smashwords? It's a site used by indie authors to upload their books to make them available in other formats, such as IPad, Iphone, Sony Reader, regular HTML for those who read on their computer, etc. Very good for international readers and non-Kindle/Nook owners! I have made my two indie books available there:

Big Bad Wolf (Smashwords)

Hunter (Smashwords)

My sales numbers through this site is very small but it's a good way to reach out to many readers who read in other e-formats. Hopefully, it'll catch on and expand my readership!

Do let me know in the comments whether you use Smashwords or that this is your first time hearing about it! It'd help my promo efforts.

KINDLE sales report: Week Two of HUNTER

I didn't quite make it. I sold 99 books; 100 was my goal. It's been a good week, so I'm not complaining. Been trying to promote it a bit but still am not good at it.

HUNTER (KINDLE)

Anyway, I thought my writer friends would be interested in this information. And hey, if you have any ideas to help me promote or want me chat on your blog about SEALs, spies and writing series, etc., please do contact me!

Thank you, everyone, for buying Hunter (Kindle). Edits for Sleeper is slow but steady (3/4 done) and yeah, trying to write Dangerously Hot by deadline. Argghhhh.

HUNTER now in Print!

HUNTER, the reissued Crossfire series book, is now available in print form at Amazon. Here's the link:

HUNTER (print)

It's for sale for $9.99 at this time. I have, for now, not opted for Amazon's distribution program, which would have upped the book to a minimum $11.50 (they set a minimum price and I add whatever I want on top. At $11.50, I'd make 25cents a book. Most trades, as you know, is around $14). Anyway, the added distribution channels are inde-bookstores and libraries, which I don't think will be ordering my books for now, anyway.

So, I'm experimenting with a more competitive price of $9.99. I hope readers will find it an attractive bargain! If not, HUNTER is also available for $3.99 in e-format for

HUNTER (Kindle)
HUNTER (Nook)
and
Hunter (Smashwords)

I'm working on the Dangerously Hot novella right now as well as doing edits for SLEEPER (old title: Sleeping With The Agent). Busy, busy, busy!

I hope you're having a great week!

Please do feel free to share the link on your Facebook and Twitter. And thank you so much for helping me promote! It's been fun watching Hunter's #s going up on Amazon.

I'm working on Sleeper edits this week. Have you seen my new cover?

Hunter (Kindle Version) is Up!

I'm so excited! Finally, HUNTER is ready for Kindle owners! It's priced at $3.99.

PRINT version won't be out for another week. I'm still waiting for a physical copy to review first.

NOOK readers, don't worry. Hopefully, HUNTER will be available in a few days too :).

I hope to get SLEEPER and PROTECTOR out within the month but what with working on the two new books (DANGEROUSLY HOT antho and Grace McNeil's story) for Christmas, it's going to be interesting to see whether I can keep those goals I told you about a few months ago!

Here's the new cover. And the link to Amazon Kindle is right below it.

Teaser from DANGEROUSLY HOT

Sylvia Day and I are writing two novellas for an anthology titled DANGEROUSLY HOT, a romantic suspense coming out as an ebook around Christmas.

I wanted to share a teaser scene with y'all. It's not edited or revised, so be warned that it might read a little differently in its final draft. But I know you've been going without new stuff from me for a while, so I wanted to share.

Besides DANGEROUSLY HOT, I have a short story in the much anticipated SEAL anthology, SEAL Of My Dreams, coming out 11/11/11 (and already doing well on Amazon!). So, I'm slowly getting myself back into writing shape.

Here's the excerpt. Hope you like!

Gennita Low @2011

The man was delicious to look at. What Americans would call “hot.” Tall. Dark-haired. Rakish-looking with that stubble. And, as always, that look in his jewel-green eyes gave her a sudden need for a long cool drink, preferably with vodka.

She’d long passed the point of wondering why he’d affect her this way. Just that he did. And each meeting, she anticipated that gaze, so direct, so damn intimate, and each time, she couldn’t help herself. She winked at him. And then, depending on the situation, they would pick up or exchanged items in the middle or one of them back away, following the unspoken protocol of a first-come-first-serve basis.

It was part of the game. She could play it a bit hotter but knew she couldn’t afford it.  It was just too bad they were on opposite sides because she had a feeling it’d be more than a bit hotter.

Scorching, more like.

Her superiors wouldn’t approve any consorting without their say-so. After all, she was their fixer. She couldn’t afford to be seen being friendly with someone who could use it against her.

But damn he was hot. She waited for him to step back did his usual two finger salute to acknowledge that she arrived first this time, but instead, he started walking slowly toward her.

She frowned. This wasn’t their pattern. Nowadays, their respective agencies had agreed to do things with the least casualties as possible. Yes, some peace treaties actually included secret clauses like “first come first serve,” “positional operative compromise” and “negotiable exchange.”

So civilized.

She didn’t back away as he approached. Curiosity stopped her. He had a hand in his jacket, probably a weapon. It occurred to her that she might be a target but she didn’t think so. If he’d wanted to kill her, he’d have done so already from five meters away. Or any number of times she’d bumped into him the last year.

They’d never spoken to each other directly. He’d never touched her. Their long looks at each other had been when there were no witnesses.

She watched, unable to move, as his hands came up and cupped her face. Tilted it up. His thumbs rubbed her cheeks. She didn’t do a thing as his head swooped down and his lips caught hers. His tongue swept into her surprised mouth. Tangled. Tasted. Vodka and lime. Five seconds, tops.

He stepped back and gazed down at her, those eyes cool and unreadable. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, a smile of a man who had just found a secret.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a while now,” he softly said, that husky Southern twang sending a tingle down her spine.

That voice was distinct to the European underground. The Cowboy had a reputation of getting things done his way. But she had a reputation too, a lethal one.

She continued watching him as he disappeared into the shadows. Five seconds could get a man killed. Five seconds could change one’s life.

I'm Giving Up Dinner For Lent

I've given up coffee and milkshakes for a month before. They're my weakness and it was tough waking up in the morning and going for juice or something else.

This year, after much mulling, I've decided to give up dinners. I eat horrendously late at night; it's been a habit for years now, so there's no reforming me. This will be a tough test of my willpower!

Notice, though, that I didn't say I was cutting off the late night munchies, which I take ALONG with the late dinner (yes, I'm a glutton at after 9pm). This is because I suffer from acid reflux and need something in my tummy at odd hours of the day and night or suffer the consequences, which is, for those who don't know gastric pain, is me curled up in a ball while something puts my tummy insides through a meat grinder. I do, however, intend to eat more fruits than the regularly scheduled KitKat and cookie breaks ;-). And, in case of emergency, there's always MikiSquirrel's stash of nuts.

Why do I just not eat earlier dinners, you ask.  Well, actually, I do have a good answer. Or, at least, a somewhat logical one. I work till dark most of the time. Tearing off roofs (reroofing) has taken its toll on my available time. Before, with new roofs, I could just up and leave the house whenever and I wouldn't need to worry. But with reroofing, I've to make sure everything is properly covered up because it's a lived-in home and we can't afford any water damage from a sudden rain at night. When the day is over, tired and VERY dirty, I usually drive straight home and the period between my coming in the house and sitting in front of puter is very crucial.

I CANNOT sit down. Or the whole night is done for. So, I use the next hour doing all the chores--let the dogs out, play with MikiSquirrel and clean her cage, run the vacuum or wash, depending on which needs the most attention, or pay attention to any home things that need to be fixed.  Sometimes I've to run to the store if there's a shortage in dog food or stuff, so that's the end of house chores.

When those things are done, I either take a shower or sit down for some relaxation in front of the TV. The mutant poms are happily munching on bones and MikiSquirrel is happily playing with my hair. I use the time to catch up on email and Facebook while taking in the show.  Sometimes, if the roof was particularly difficult, I'd just vegetate with a glass of wine.

After putting MikiSquirrel to bed after the show, I get ready to write. Sometimes I struggle. Okay, lately, A LOT, because of the traveling around looking for roofing work (my mind seems to get tired from all the haggling and questioning and price bidding), and when I struggle, my tummy starts to rumble and it's by now, as you guess, pretty late, and yeah, I'd start thinking, "Wow, I'm hungry.  Maybe if I eat, I'll be able to write better."

So off I to the kitchen and get myself a real meal, the kind you guys eat between 5-7pm, and I'd eat and write at the same time (or get distracted by email and other stuff). After that, if I'm lucky, words start coming and I'd take advantage of that hour or two. Other times, nothing. Then I'd use the time to look at bills and figure out how to pay them :-P.

Anyway, that's my reason for eating so late and yes, I've existed like even before hard roofing days. It's just the way my internal clock goes. Hungry late at night. I think it all started in my youth in Malaysia, when my grandma would take me to the night bazaars to watch Chinese opera and eat delicious food. I grew up doing that till I moved here, and then, in college, PIZZA RUNS at midnight reinforced this habit.

So this is going to be a difficult month for me. Snacks will help but heck, the first week, expect a very bad-tempered Gennita at night. Heh. My poor Facebook friends are going to see more of that side, I suspect.

What about you? Are you into giving something up for Lent or for a month?

As for writing tonight (first night of no dinner), I actually did quite well.  I edited ten pages of my novella, The Game, that was published in The Mammoth Book of Spec Ops Romance anthology, added a bit more heat to the sexy scene, and only felt had a cookie and a mango in between. I'm still hungry, but not ravenous. Maybe one more cookie would help.

For those who didn't know, yes, I'm intending to release The Game as an ebook, with edited and added paragraphs (not many) through Kindle, the Nook, and Smashwords for $2.00.  I sold it when I fell off the roof and landed on my head a while back, and I couldn't find the brain cells to rewrite it properly. Anyhow, it'll be a start of getting more of my work available for those who are looking for them as ebooks. I'm working on this while trying to finish VOne, so don't worry, I'm not ignoring my priorities, but sometimes I feel I need to take my mind off of forcing that so, as a compromise, I'll get The Game out, and then The Protector will be my next tackle.

So, that's my Day One of giving up dinner news. Not bad, huh?

Monday LookIn

I know, I know. I'm going through a dry spell blogging these days. I still do a lot of quick Facebook updates, if you're into social media and pics of hot guys :-).

Don't worry, I'm not abandoning y'all.  Just been struggling. With words, with life, with trying to keep the house clean (squirrel is MESSY kid), with health. In other words, PerkyJenn has been lagging. Maybe I need some vitamins.

I've also been trying to re-edit my novella for the Mammoth Book of Spec. Ops. as an ebook.  It seems to be taking me an inordinate long time, but the urge to rewrite as I edit is SO HARD to resist. That was my first novella and yeah, the flaws, the flaws.... Maybe, instead of 4 chapters, it will become 5 chapters when it comes out :-).  Anyway, when it's done, formatted, and given a cover, you should be able to buy and download it onto your Kindle, Nook, and other devices (from Smashwords) for $2.00.

Have a good Monday. It's gorgeous here and I'll be on the roof sunbathing.

Big Bad Wolf On Smashwords Now

It's ready!  You can now download an ebook of Big Bad Wolf on your Kindle, Nook, computer, or any e-reader from Smashwords.  Here is the url:

Tell me what you think of the $4.99 price.  Is it a good price for you?  I'm just happy to finally be able to offer BBW as an ebook since many of you have asked for this format since it came out on Amazon a while back.

I'll try to update you on how this project does.  Right now I'm $175.00 in the red so it'll take a while before I make any profit.

Do you buy your ebooks on Smashwords?

Big Bad Wolf Available On Kindle & Nook Soon!

I'm so excited.  I finally found a company (Jaxadora Design) that charges a decent price (meaning, one I could afford) to convert my BBW pdf into different formats for different readers.  BIG BAD WOLF should available for Kindle, Nook, and at Smashwords for those who prefer other formats in a week to ten days!

And here is the new cover for BBW.  What do you think?  I love the new look very much.

Some of you have asked about the availability of my currently unavailable SEAL books in any format.  As you know, I've gotten the rights back to The Protector and Sleeping With *** and I'll be putting them back on Amazon, BN, and Smashwords as soon as I can...with new covers!  And with some of the cut original scenes edited out because of word count.  And oh, a new title for Sleeping With ***, which I still can't say with a straight face.  If you have any cool suggestions, do put in comments ;-).

I Is A Dinosaur

I have this big expanse of wall space in my study, and I dream of getting shelves put there, from one end to the other. I've had this dream for a year (and some months) now. The shelves aren't wide like the store-bought bookshelves, but are from precut planks from Lowes or Home Depot--8 inches--so I could stack my books sideways, titles upright, and they'd al fit precisely up to the next plank/shelf, so that I don't have to dust.

In the course of this one-plus year of dreaming, almost everyone I know online has bought an e-reader or is thinking of one. Kindle. Nook. I-Phone. I-Pad. Sony. Many love their new lifestyle--no more heavy books, no more piles around the house, space is now free for other things.

From the standpoint of the new world of ebooks, I'm an utter Fail. You see, I have this nasty habit of browsing through my chosen novel, sometimes starting from The End.  Granted, it's possible to do this with an ebook, with e-reader of choice, but it hasn't given me the same odd satisfaction. I can't seem to flip backwards the same.

Of course, I realize that I'm just an odd duck and the industry is passing me by.  Almost every voracious reader is downloading like crazy--free ebooks, free samples, free galleys, buying more books than ever before--and here I am, still building shelves.

I mean, how medieval. People have virtual shelves now, showing off covers of their acquired ebooks, storing their library in the "Cloud," a place where virtual books exist to be called upon at leisure from anywhere in this world, unless, of course, you're hit by a natural disaster like a hurricane and you're knocked offline for 2 weeks.  Then your storage is off-limits till wifi and electricity return.

But even then, a savvy reader doesn't just have one source of ebooks.  There are those who know how to break the DRM and store their book files into their I-phones.  There are ebooks sold without DRM and these one could store in one's e-device of choice.

So I stare at my medieval shelves and wonder: why should I give these books space in my house when I could put them in the Cloud?  Imagine, a study with no clutter or piles of books.

Maybe I'm just a stasher by nature. I like to stash things, especially books. Shelves upon shelves of touchable books make me deliriously happy for some reason, that looking at virtual shelves does't. Besides, I'm not very organized by nature. I know where my physical books are, even if they're shelved out of order.  Over on top, all oldie Nora Roberts.  In bedroom, all Presents, especially Bianchin and Reid. Far right, a mixture of paranormals, with some Merline Lovelace SIMs that wandered in there that I hadn't gotten the time to move to another spot. And uh, those piles? That's my Loot from various conventions that I haven't gotten to yet. Sue me, but the Loot always makes me rub my hands in glee because I know I'll get to play with them some day.

I just know, if I jump to everything e-books, I'll never know where my files are.  Or, if I'm smart enough to put them all in one place, none of them would be arranged in a way that I could easily find an oldie for rereading. I look at my files in My Documents on my computer and know that would be how my virtual books would look like--everything saved haphazardly, with the odd folder for a manuscript. And somehow, looking at lines and lines of titles on a screen just doesn't give me the same glee.

This is how dinosaurs died off, you know.  They were too big and couldn't adapt to the new Age.

Off I go looking at that wall again....

Would It Still Be Self-Pub If You Need A Techie Assistant?

I just received my rights back to The Protector and Sleeping With The Agent.  I'd love to have the time to format them to sell them as edownloads at Smashwords, which, from my research, makes ebooks readable on all e-reading devices, including the Kindle, Sony, and Android.  Also, with the right formatting and following of instructions, these titles would also be available at mainstream sites, such as Barnes and Noble (and, very soon, Amazon too, they claimed).

It's not just the formatting part.  I'll need new covers (they belong to the old publisher) and new blurbs.  I want to change the title of Sleeping With The Agent, which I'd been against since the beginning.  I suppose I could also do the same for the novella, The Game, and expand on it too since I could make it longer!  And oh, Big Bad Wolf, too, since I wouldn't have to figure out Kindle's CSS instructions all by myself.

My dream Techie Assistant would do all this for me for a reasonable part-time fee ;-).  Wouldn't that be nice?

Yes, it's a brave new world out there for authors.  Maybe I'll call it Steamy-Print Punk Era.

First Time E-Book Buyers

From your emails to me, I'm getting the feeling that some of you are venturing into ebooks for the first time. Virtually Hers is coming out as an ebook first and print next year, and I'm very happy that you aren't going to wait till 2010 ;-).

If you have any questions about ebooks and the buying process, please comment under this post. I and other e-book readers will try to answer all your questions. I don't own an e-reader either, since I download the files straight into my computer and read them on my Esus laptop (small ten inch thing that's so light!). But many of those who stop by here are very savvy e-readers and they might tell you more than I can, if you're interested in purchasing one of the many devices out there.

Even if you only have a simple question about downloading from Samhain, do ask it here too. I want my readers, especially those who are trying out e-books for the first time, to have as little trouble with the process as possible.

Back blurb of Virtually Hers is up! Here is the link to the Samhain Publishing page. Publishing date for the e-book is OCT. 6. Print book is sometime next year.

VIRTUALLY HERS BLURB

Virtually, Book 2

In Helen “Hell” Roston’s elite black ops world, failure isn’t listed as an option in the rule book. As the leading guinea pig in a dangerous combination of virtual reality training and a mind-altering serum, though, every day offers a thousand ways to blow it. And the very real sexual chemistry that sizzles between Hell and her trainer is messing with her head even more.

COS Commando Jed McNeil is an expert in mind manipulation games. He’s been chosen to be Hell’s monitor and anchor in the Super Soldier Spy program. Trained to compartmentalize his needs and feelings in an assignment, he’s unprepared by how much Hell affects him.

When the experimental serum gives Helen incapacitating headaches, her pain throws Jed into protect-at-all-costs mode. A position the fiercely independent Hell would rather die than be in. But with a rogue CIA faction out to sabotage the program, Hell has no choice—even if it makes her head explode. It’s trust Jed, or die.

What do you think? I thought the warning label at the bottom of the blurb was hilarious ;-).

Dirty Feet And Thunder Cheeks

You know the band AC/DC, right? They have a popular song/album titled Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. I've never paid attention to the lyrics and usually just hum this particular song when I hear it on the radio. I've always thought the lyrics went...

Dirty feet and thunder cheeks

Never thought anything about how ridiculous they sound since I'm not paying attention anyway. Of course, I should have wondered more at the puzzled amused glances I'd gotten throughout the years from the guys working at the job sites. Today, I was properly corrected by a Very Serious AC/DC fan, mainly because he's tired of listening to my howling out "dirty feet and thunder cheeks" while his favorite song is on.

My point is...maybe because of all my babbling about VHers coming out soon and NOT being clear, or maybe some of you just saw the cover pic and assumed, or you heard something different from what I'd been saying...I wonder whether some of you realize that VIRTUALLY HERS is coming out as an EBOOK this October???

In the contest commentary, quite a few are saying they're going to drive their postmen crazy. This makes me think that either there's a misunderstanding or that you're going to wait for the print format to come out. Nothing wrong with the latter, mind you, but I wanted to be sure.

So. In case, there's some confusion:

VIRTUALLY HERS is coming out as an Ebook this October. It will be available from the Samhain website, as well as Fictionwise, Mobipocket, Amazon, Allromanceebooks and BooksonBoard. I'm not familiar with all the formats available for e-readers and electronic gadgets, but I've downloaded ebooks straight into my computer without any problems.

VIRTUALLY HERS, the print format, will be available some time next year (2010). I'll let you know the actual date as soon as I have the information.

*****

Are we all straightened out about the what-what? ;-)

Now it's your turn: What song lyrics have you unknowingly mangled through the years? Betcha it wasn't as bad as "dirty feet and thunder cheeks" for "dirty deeds done dirt cheap!"

BBW Factoid

For those who are interested, Big Bad Wolf's sales reached 600 copies end of Aug. June and July were the slowest months but then it started to pick up in August. Hopefully, VHers will generate some more interest. My goal is to try to sell 800 copies by end of year. Highly unlikely, but hey, it'd be cool if it did happen.

Overall, I'm pleased with what I've accomplished. The royalties are paying some of my bills, so hey, not complaining here!

Can't wait for VHers to come out next month so I can see more royalties ;-).
