Your Uber VIRTUALLY HERS Yak Thread

You may now start your conversation, voice your opinions about Jed and Hell, make noises about the MeanJenn, kick Jed's butt, send Armando love, analyze Heath Cliffe, pick on anything, do your own remote-viewing, make up your virtual reality scenario, scream about that One Crate Scene, figure out the time-line, mock the Jed dictionary--wow, the list keeps growing!--AND do any praising (yes, author has ego) in this here thread.

I want to hear it all.

Book Buying Survey

Get This - Survey Results - GlowDay.com

The third question's answers were cut off by the size of the widget. Here are the choices for you to click on:

1) mostly erotica because of the covers
2) only out-of- or unavailable in print
3) always, cos I prefer to read with e-reader
4) seldom, don't like reading screen for hours

Do write your thoughts in the comment section about:

a) whether you'd reread as often if you have all your books in a digital library (do you look at your digital photographs much?)

b) would you miss the covers?

c) would you love the ability to enlarge the font of your reading material?

d) How about the browsing part? You know, playing with books, reading the back blurbs, cking out a few pages...is it any different when you browse, let's say, Amazon? Or do you not browse Amazon at all?

e) anything you want to add

This is my first try at this widget so I don't know whether the results will be shown or not. Let's hope so!

Harlequin Vintage Tote Bag 2009 Giveaway

These pretty bags were given out to RWA attendees this year. It's big and decorated with vintage Harlequin cover art. Many of my friends gave theirs to me because they were difficult to fold into their carry-on luggage without creasing.

I HAVE ONE TO GIVE AWAY. With maybe a book or two inside ;-).

If you'd like to win this awesome tote, write a comment in this post, telling me about your first romance book and what do you want to see/read in your romance book today.

For example, my first romance book was Rosemary Rogers' Sweet Savage Love. Or maybe it was a Barbara Cartland, but I can't remember a single title from my collection of her books. RR's story, however, definitely changed my reading habits forever ;-).

As for what I want to read in my romances today, I'd like fewer sex scenes and more h/h sexual tension and relationship exploration. I feel that 15 pages of bedroom antics followed by 2 pages of plot followed by another 15 pages of sexxoring too boring for my current taste. Thirty years ago, yeah, that was titillating. Good tight dialogue, filled with sexy tension, or angst, or Teh Funny is more satisfying and so lacking in my romance reading these days.

So, your turn.

Books Make Nice Prizes And Gifts!

Books are wonderful gifts. Here are some great reasons:

1) They are relatively cheap
2) They promote mental health
3) They are easy to wrap
4) You can read it first before gifting them
5) They take you away from boring daily life
6) They help starving authors to buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones

So many absolutely irrefutable reasons. Why would you want to go walking round and round in the malls when you could be browsing bookshelves of...books?! (In my best Craig Ferguson--of whom I adore, adore, adore--imitation) I know! I'm such a genius.

And of course I have a few ways for you to get a good book:

The Keanu! BlahBlahBlah! Caption Contest will be open till Friday, so put on your funny thinking caps. Come on...look at the prizes ;-). BOOKS! Or, don't you at least want a $10 Amazon gift cert.? It can go to pay for your order of, ahem, Big Bad Wolf. Just sayin'.

And when does Big Bad Wolf go live, anyway, Jenn?

Well, glad you asked. I just finished reading the ARC for typos and making changes and will be waiting for Amazon's email to me for the thumbs up. Then you can start ordering. I'm just so happy to get this ready before Christmas.

I was also thinking that some of you might need suggestions for new authors to try out to get to $25, which qualifies you for free shipping at Amazon. Let's put out some names on this thread.

Who is a new author you've discovered this year that you've really enjoyed?

My recommendation is Ilona Andrews' superb Magic series. It's urban fantasy, with a heroine who's a mercenary who cleans up magic gone wrong in a post-apocalyptic Atlanta (YO, LADY ZANNAH!!!!!). The love interest is the Lord of Beast, a werelion named Curran. Trust me. You want to meet Curran. ;-)

Your turn.

There, some of your Christmas shopping anxieties taken care of. I know! I'm a genius!

Post #2: A Moment To Reflect

Taking a leaf from John Scalzi's post on his blog, now that you're finally done cooking/stuffing/eating and have a moment to reflect--and besides the pretty eye candy of the first post--what are you thankful for?

My answer at Scalzi's:

I'm thankful for savings so I don't have to eat my Mutant Poms for Thanksgiving.

;-)

On a serious note, I'm thankful for having wonderful readers like you, who have been so patient and supportive all year.

And I'm thankful for our fighting men and women overseas who stand in harm's way for our country. Bless them and their families who are missing them today and everyday.

Your turn.

Your Turn

Maybe you have a topic of interest you want me to talk about.

Maybe it isn't about me (AND WHY NOT?!).

Maybe it's a question about writing or roofing that you've been dying to ask.

Maybe it's how the banking system works (remember you're asking a roofer this question).

Maybe it's mundane, like oh, the bones and body parts in RB's anatomy class.
Maybe you have news you want to share.

So here's your chance. Your thread. You put out the topic. I'll try my best to enlighten, entertain, and encourage you. Why? Because last week was all about me. This week, or part of it, it's all about you.

Exhaustion Is Not A Good Way To Live

Unless something amazing happens (like the appearance of an email from my webmistress that she's done with CERTAIN FILES), I'm taking a few days off, although I'll be here answering the Shoutbox and maybe posting replies. The last week--relatives, friends, cooking, birthdays, entertainment, and working on the roof everyday--have pushed me to my limit and my state of zombiehood has not improved with alcoholic fortification.

Don't let me stop you from telling me about your reading and entertainment ;-). I've been totally enchanted by C.L. Wilson's Lord of The Fading Lands as well as the second book just out, Lady of Light and Shadows. There is so much to love and to talk about in these books. However, I'm reading the LoLaS backwards because...well, because...so I'm not quite done yet as I fill in the gaps between end of the first book and the second. Yes, yes, I'm weird like dat.

So, please entertain me with a funny thing your relative did during Thanksgiving. Oh, you know how weird family gatherings are during get-togethers! Have you seen some of the YouTube Turkey Day shenanigans the men have been up to? Dude. Line male turkey dancing is NOT pretty. My brain. It hurts.

Or, if you're from outside the States, you can tell me why you lub His Jedness or ____ so much. I'm not picky. ;-)
