Sleeping In

Yup, that's what I'm planning to do. Me. And rereading all three Patricia Briggs. And then icecream. I'm not combing my hair today.

I'll post something more succinct after the books and icecream. By the way, I'm in love with Edy's Little Bites. Yum.

And what are your grand plans this weekend?

I added a cool widget that allows the reader to visit random past posts by clicking on the link. Look to the right at GLOW TIME TRAVEL and just click and you get to read a random past insanity. Heehee. Be careful. There are nekkid male torsos and Sexy Vege pics floating around. It's fun to be surprised, isn't it?

Post #3: The New Kind of Uber-Zombies

Sometimes, late at night, when you're aimlessly surfing the Intrawebbs, do you have that thought, the one that haunts you when you're snuffing down the leftover meatloaf in your fridge dead of night--"Why the hell do I keep doing this? I should be writing/sleeping/doing laundry/paying bills/doing something else."

Well, I'm snuffing down leftover meatloaf right now.

And you're aimlessly surfing the Intrawebbs.

We're even.

Yesterday I Was Mad, Today I'm Scared

I was being naughty and looking at my "odds-n-funny" picture files to help out John Scalzi's Greetings, Gentlebeings, a LOLProject mocking the beginning line in the candidacy announcements of one of the candidates running for President of SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America), for my weekend fun. Yes, I know, rainy Saturdays = sure bet for YouTube and Procrastination.

Anyway, I came across a pic that scared even myself and thought I'd shared it with you. Be afraid, be very afraid....

Eye Bleach alert!!! Heh, heh, heh.

I also considered the one below, with Christopher Walken in Balls of Fury, but was suddenly struck by nostalgia.

Do you remember him in Pennies From Heaven?

Except for the underwear, which reminded me of my father (it's never a good thing to watch/read a hot scene and have anything FATHER appearing in my thoughts), he practically STOLE the show with this sexay performance. Sigh. From high-flying stripping stud to...ping-pong Balls of Fury. Nonetheless, I still love you, Chris Walken.

Aw, did I hurt your brain with that pic of Superoided Carrot Top? No, he isn't in my Sexy Vege file, you bad people.

I'm On A Magazine Cover!

EDITED TO ADD: Mag-pics of blog readers added at the bottom as they come in my mail!

Gotcha! ;-)

I stole this from Leiha. This is a great weekend procrastination tool:

You basically upload your pics and voila! You're on the cover of a magazine! Check out my wild partying at RT balls, nyah, nyah!

I cannot resist making one of me with the great Adrian Paul holding INTO DANGER *grin*

And of course, here are the mutant poms with a cover all of their own:

Make your own and send me the code/picture! I'll post them here for our enjoyment. Prove to me you're a good procrastinator too!

TADA, and here is Leiha whom I know only travels in bars, being the discoverer of new frontiers ;-).

And now, Pamela Clare's fashion statement:

And this one is one of Lady Zannah's alpha male-in-training ;-):

Uber Ways Not To Write

So I procrastinated today by playing with the width of this blog. Sigh. Hopeless, I tell you.

I found that by going into the HMTL coding of the template, I could widen the blog to give it a nicer spatial look. However, the coding didn't tell the template to fit the blog picture (the running couple above) into the frame. So essentially, you get the same size pic plus a couple of inches of jade green space, which makes it look out of whack. Also the added green inches don't "round" the corners nicely and you can tell where the blog has been adjusted.

EDITED TO ADD: I just took out the "gif" for the rounded corners to the left main posting area, so that smoothed out that particular problem.

Waste of time ;-). But I like the wider look (less outside green) and wish I could find the coding to get the picture and frame on top right.

Then I decided to pay my traffic violation ticket online. It was, after all, the DUE DAY. Technically, anything paid by the due day is ON TIME, right? Well, what do you know, even though it said so on the ticket that one could pay online as an option, the website stated that I couldn't any more.

So, let's call up the County Court House and listen to the electronic voice for fifteen minutes, of which none of the options got me any answers. I finally found a real person and she told me that yes, indeed, one could NOT electronically pay for a ticket after 20 days. And because I live in a modern society in which every police officer has his own laptop that prints out a traffic violation ticket in five seconds, the COUNTY COURTHOUSE IS NOT EQUIPPED to take a credit card payment by phone. Uh, huh. I bet you the court clerks in INDIA are LAUGHING AT YOU, Volusia county.

I, mostly a law-abiding citizen, couldn't understand the reasoning behind this strangely random online rule. If I could pay by check on the day before it's due, and if I could drive to the courthouse to pay by cash on the very same day it's due, why couldn't I pay electronically through the website nine days, eight days, shit--one second--before it's due? It was a bank transfer, after all, right? No answer from the other end.

The Alpha Male, at this point, sent an urgent call for help. He was buried under A SACK OF SAND (I'm not kidding) because he had been trying to weigh down the injured leg slowly into a 45 degree angle, per the doctor's request. The doctor DID NOT REQUEST the use of a sack of sand as a weight. I think he meant someone's help, preferably a physical therapist. I guess, according to Alpha Logic, a bag of sand = physical therapist.

After a bit of driving around because, of course, said injured man now couldn't move that leg for a while, I had to take off out of town towards the County Courthouse to pay this fine. I'd thought I would make it. It was 4.45pm. Doesn't everything close at 5pm any more? Nope, the Traffic Violation Division closed at 4.30pm, ma'am, the burly guard sitting at the security gate politely informed me. Sigh.

So did I actually accomplish anything today? Let's see:

Write one page? Nope.
Widen my blog correctly? Nope.
Pay my fine? Nope.
Get the Alpha Male to not bother me with strange requests? Nope.

Am I in trouble? Probably. We'll see when I drive to the Courthouse again tomorrow. I'll be HALF A DAY overdue and no, I refuse to admit that it's my fault because there is no text anywhere online or on paper telling me about this 20 day limit rule. Stupid.

But then that was how I got into trouble in the first place. I told the burly cop who stopped me that the sign on the road was a NO U-TURN sign and not a NO LEFT TURN sign. Stupid, I said. And he gave me a stupid ticket and now I'm the one running around doing u-turns. Who's stupid now, huh? Yeah. My big mouth, is who.

Go on, giggle. I'm the biggest subconscious procrastinator in the world, I tell you.

The Uber World Is Blogging

You want to waste more time? This link is going under my Procrastination Station section of my blog:

http://play.blogger.com/

These are photos uploaded in real time by bloggers all around the world. Everything about everyone's lives, thoughts, and history. You can sit and stare at this as the pictures zoom by, thinking deep thoughts and admiring at the human love and need for communication.

After watching, tell me your thoughts. Life is beautiful? Sniff, sniff? Or Yikes, Big Brother lives?

It's beautiful. And humbling. And also a bit scary to know that it's happening in real time ;-).

MySpace, My Place In The World

AND THE WINNERS ARE:

CATHY AND MONIQUE!

Congratulations! Please email me at Jenn @ my website with your snail mail address and the ARCs will be in your post boxes via our wonderful postal service.

**********
How many of you have a My Space page? Do you visit authors' My Space pages? I'm curious because many of my published writing friends have spent A LOT of time working on their pages and they promote their books through them. Of course, to be able to view members' blogs and pictures, I had to register, so now I'm the owner of a My Space page. I haven't done anything to it--no skin, no book covers, no pictures--other than a few lines of intro.

First, the time thing. Second, I don't know whether it's going to be worth it for me as a promotional tool. Do I need another website to distract me (and yeah, I can tell it will definitely be a fun place to "decorate")? I think my regular websites and my blogs do a lot already, don't you?

However, every one of us is being urged to promote, promote, promote. With Walmart cutting off a bunch of midlist authors' books, our numbers are down and the only way to reach out to a wider audience is through promotion. As I told you earlier this year, when I heard the news about Walmart, I was determined to get my name out more because...well, because that's what published authors have to do to survive these days.

Yes, I'm going to say it. A lot of old-timers and famous authors will disagree with me. It is NO LONGER enough to write a good book. If you're not in the business and don't subscribe to different forums (for recommendations) and reviews, you won't hear about many books beyond the ones that are in the top tier. I depend on my friends and the author's own savvy promotions to find gems such as Nalina Singh's, Lilith Saintcrow's, and Elizabeth Hoyt's first books. And of course, the competitive part of me tells me that if I want to be as popular as they are, I have to get my name out too.

I love their books and tell my friends and readers about them, who, in turn, spread the word through their favorite forums and their own blogs and My Space pages. So doesn't it make sense to use the huge world of My Space as a promotional tool to get my name out?

This is just me yak-yak-yakking of course, as I tend to do when I'm procrastinating. Writing is the most important thing. Staying creative and doing my best to write the books as I envision them. Being true to the characters. Getting Jed to cooperate. Making deadlines. Argghhhh...why did that have to come up, huh? Huh?

Uber Deep Thoughts

Over at Lynn Viehl's blog, she posted a funny rant about how her Zen calendar's "deep thoughts" were incomprehensible to her. Looking through her examples, I had to agree. Also, her comments for each one cracked me up.

For next year, she decided to make her own Writer's Zen calendar, and she came up with some really great ones. Here are a few:

September 6: They don't all hate you. Go and write.

September 7: Maybe two hate you. But only two, I promise. Could you write now?

September 8: All right. Fine. They all hate you. I hate you. Happy? Now go write something, or tomorrow we'll start talking about why we hate you.

So of course that started me down long and winding Procrastination Lane ;-) and I happily spent my minutes away thinking up deep Zen thoughts about writing instead of doing the writing itself. Ha. If that isn't the Zen of Irony, I don't know what is.

And of course I'm sharing some of my deep thoughts about writing with you!

September 5: To write or not to write....that isn't a question...is it? Huh. It doesn't sound like a question. I wonder if Wikipedia would have an entry on that....

September 6: Writing is like training a puppy dog to stop chewing your favorite slippers. You will find the slippers chewed again and again anyway.

September 7: Wow, yesterday's deep thought was deep, wasn't it?

September 8: I know what I know, if you know what I mean...what I am is what I am...are you what you are--or what? I'm sorry, that song came on suddenly. Deepest. Songwriter. Evah.

September 9: Hero and Heroine together: "Are we there yet?"

September 10: WWJD: What would Jed do?

Hee. I knew I could get Jed in there somewhere ;-). Procrastination station: my favorite stop.

Maybe you can help me with a few deep thoughts for the calendar? Thanks, Ms. Viehl, for the fun...I think.

Patron Saint For Uber Author

I have found my patron saint! He is St. Expeditus, patron saint to procrastinators (somehow, I don't think my being one is a big secret) and to those who have emergencies (every manuscript IS an emergency!). There's even a novena for procrastinators. How uber cool is that?!

So, desperation calls for desperate measures, ya know. If this works, you will see St. Expeditus' icon on the right side of my blog because all authors should give credit when credit is due.

;-)

So, tell me, what are you desperate about these days? Desperate enough to look for higher help? A patron saint for procrastinators and emergency? That's really, really desperate.

************

On a more serious note, thank you very much for all the prayers and good wishes for RB's grandson. He's still not out of the woods yet--the operation was a success but the doctors don't know what's causing his problem and it's been up and down for the little boy.

I was actually looking for information about St. Jude's Children's Hospital when I came across my patron saint. All netroads lead to me, of course.
