Slow And Easy

I'm taking it easy this weekend, trying to recuperate and do some needed writing. It frustrates me so much when I can't get my pages done...when did it become so hard? ;-P

I started reading the third book of the Rogue Mage series by Faith Hunter, HOST. It has really turned out into a compelling series of books, but I'm starting to be worried because Thorn, the heroine, is showing the symptoms of hidden superpowers. She is an Omega Mage, tada, you know--the One. Let's hope she doesn't end up with a magic vajayjay that beckons all magic and mortal beings into sexual longing for her and only her. Nevertheless, the world building that includes seraphs and apocalyptic biblical verses is fascinating.

I can't get over how bored I was of the first third of that first book (Bloodring) that I'd put it away! Have you ever done that--thinking a book isn't really your type and putting it down, and then later, on a retry, you can't stop reading? Why do you think that is so? If the time element had been several years, I would chalk it up to me being a different person so my reaction to the book would be different, but this was only a week in between.

Anyway, I hope there's a fourth book coming. I am such a series-addict.

Any new books this month that you've read or are looking forward to?

How Do You Do It?

How do those of you with daily long commute do it? Gimme your secret. Because four hours plua a day spent on the road is surely sucking all the lively brain cells away. By the end of the day, it's just the couch, the TV, the furbabies, the couch, the food, the couch, the attempt to write, which is pitiful, and finally, bedtime.

I know many of you do it, riding subways or driving through snarling DC-like traffic, to get to work. I just want to know--how do you do it and keep your mental sanity? ;-P It doesn't matter if I nap all the way to my destination, I still feel like I'm running on empty by the end of the day and trying to create words and form ideas into stories is a constant challenge. I know I have to work through this and probably, like when I was younger, my body will adjust, but right now, friends, the body hates me ;-).

One more complaint. Ever since joining Facebook, I'm getting spammed like whoa. I was wondering whether you Facebook members have the same problem. If this is so, I'm going to have to create a fake email address for that particular site to fight against email harvesters. That's the bad thing about these huge popular sites; there be scum trolls.

As you can tell, I'm in that bitchin' state of mind. So TGIF, eh? Except that it's going to be in the lower 20s again...argh...hate dawn....Did you know that I actually had to de-ice my windshield this morning? Whaddup with that? This is Florida. No one owns a windshield scraper!

This thread is now open to your rant. What in the world is bothering you, my friends? Bitch away. You have my permission.

It's A Historic Day

People will talk about where they were on this day, when the first black man is officially inaugurated as the President of the United States. They will most likely also comment about his speech and watching history being made either right there in D.C. or live on television.

Unfortunately, I was freezing my ears, my nose, and toes off on a rooftop with dudes who hadn't voted in decades. The wind was whipping so furiously, I think one of ears flew off. It was so cold, my eyeballs started wheezing. It was so cold, my jacket was shivering and ran away looking around for cover. It was SO COLD I thought I was actually there in DC for the inauguration. So, I guess, in a way, I'd remember this day.

So, what where were you and what were you doing?

Wow, Two Weeks Of 2009 Gone By Already!

Today, my oddball stories made a guy laugh so hard that he told the others that I gave him a six-pack. There you go, that's how Joe Six-Packs come about, listening to Gennita's crazy adventures ;-).

The Facebook Project has given me a surprise! I sold 20 books in the last two days. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm glad more readers looking for me have found out about Big Bad Wolf.

What do you guys think about the new proposed law to ban ALL cell phones while driving, even hands-free ones? Will On-Star go out of business? Do you think this will pass? I don't like people driving with one hand myself (especially while eating or smoking at the same time!) but to ban hands free ones too seems a bit overdoing it. I mean, what next? They're going to ban my checking email while cruising down the highway? Heehee.

Four hours of 24 (Jack Bauer + Tony Almaeda = TWU BROMANCE LUV) these past two nights (with out-of-town traveling) have really exhausted me, so please excuse the disjointed post. My body isn't happy with the hours. My brain is not happy that I insist on writing while my back aches. We no like waking up at an insane early hour. Hate dawn. Hate the cold.

Oh well, the Joes of the world need me to work on their six-packs.

********
Oh, Lady Z emailed and gave me a great novella suggestion too! She wanted the Stooges to give Reed (Joker) a hard time about his money. Now, that could be funny, huh?

Keep those ideas coming, girls. Tease and stimulate my writing muscles.

So, is it me, or is 2009 starting like a speeding stallion?! When life is this fast, can you afford not to lose your cell phone yakking while driving? I mean, we need to squeeze as much as we can, in the time we have!

All The Clocks Are Wrong

This time change stuff is messing me up! Grrr. It gets darker earlier now, so I have to get to work earlier to catch that extra hour of sunlight. So, blogging becomes a nighttime chore, except that I'm exhausted, my feet feel like they are five times their normal size, and my brain is not willing to think about interesting blog topics after running around on the roof.

I admire writers who work during the day and write at night after their job. How do you do it? My brain is dead by then. Mahjong calleth.

Do you find, as you grow older, that this annual time change is bothersome to the body, mind and spirit? Or is it just me? ;-) It doesn't seem to affect the furbabees. Anytime is snack time. That extra night-hour gives me the munchies...all I do is look for snacks. (ICHIBAN, SQ! Heh)

So did you have a good Halloween? Did you dress up? What was the best costume you saw?

I looked up a St. Fermin (running of the bulls) article for RB to unconvince him about this new "adventure." It's called The Tip Of The Horn and is written by someone who actually ran with the bulls. He had some good advice, but mostly, he was trying to show what a foolhardy thing to do it is ;-). Very interesting article, and I learned a lot about St. Fermin, but it reminded me when one of the Beatles said on TV, "Don't do drugs. It's really bad for you." I was, like, yeah...do as I say but not as I do.

Anyway, didn't scare RB off at all, especially the part where it says that "after a run, most people feel like they can lift huge oak trees out of the ground by their trunks." LOL. That just perked the man right up. "Oh yeah, that's the feeling I'm looking for..."

Sigh. Why couldn't he just buy a nice sports convertible, huh?

Friday Wisdom

You may not know that many non-living things have a gender.

For example:
Ziploc bags are Male. They are male because they hold everything in,but you can see right through them.

Copiers are Female. They are female because once turned off, it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed.

Tires are Male because they go bald and are often over-inflated.
Hot Air Balloons are Male because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under them, and of course, there's the hot air part.
Sponges are Female because they're soft, squeezable and retain water.
The Web Page is Female because it's always getting hit on.
The Subway is Male because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.

The Hourglass is Female because over time, the weight shifts to the bottom.
A Hammer is Male because it hasn't changed much over the last 5000 years, but it's handy to have around.

The Remote Control is Female. Yes, you thought it would be male. But consider this -- it gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying.

You must admit, the male always looks so cute when they are just lying there and being QUIET. Heehee.
So: Is the laptop male or female? Why?
What about the cell phone?
Refrigerator?
I know I've got y'all looking around you and thinking ;-).
