Your Latest MikiSquirrel Video Fix

She's really fun and has steadfastly refuses to leave the cage I put in the yard. She likes to come in and sleep in her teeshirt instead. Oh, well. Another mutant for Jenn :).

What's That In The Santa Bag?

Yes, this furry thing is totally dominating my life.

This morning, I put her up in a tree, trying to train her to stay there, but it being 30 plus degrees F., she just chirped and jumped back onto my head, ran down my sweater and hid there.  I don't blame her!  But I think it's essential to make her understand about the cold, the trees, and living there.

There is a bunch of turkey buzzards that roost in the acreage at the back of my subdivision and I worry about that, since they fly over twice a day--about fifty or more of them!--and I'm sure their keen eyes would catch sight of a little fursquirrel who just sits on a branch.

It's going to be in the 20s tonight, so Miki is going be curled up on her rice-sock.

Miki: "I don't think I look like him."

Miki and Me In The Garden

I took Miki for a walk in the garden so he could get some outside air.  We were checking out the trees for his next condo.  She didn't seem to be too eager to go back out into the cold.  After a few experimental jumps onto branches, she lept back onto my head.  So back into her cage she went, tired out from her adventures.  She's now snoring away.

Hopefully the weather will be warm soon and I can release her outside. Right now, my roofers are calling me Squirrel Whisperer.  Gah.

The Mutant Poms don't believe me when I told them she's a "puppy."

Sweet Remembrance

Temper, the remaining Old Lady of my poms, left me today. She just couldn't bear to be alone without her sister and this past week, seemed to have lost her will to live.

My original Mutant Poms had been with me for 18 years, from dad Brando to the final two babies, Mira and Temper. My home was built for them, with their own back room and big yard; and they've been my home for a long, long time.

Sweet dreams, my baby Temper. All of us in our younger glory:

Today my heart will remember my sweet ones, the original Mutant Poms:

It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are. -- (UNKNOWN)

Brando, Magic, BoomBoom, BoyBoy, Miracle, and Temper.

Together again.

Mommy loves and misses all of you.

From The Mailbag

The Questions I Get....

Jenn, why do you call your poms Mutant Poms?

Like their mom, my furbabies aren't exactly normal. Brando, my eighteen year-old who passed away last August, was 15 lbs, big for a pom. When I started researching about finding a mate for a dog, I discovered that I needed to get a female bigger than my male or she's going to suffer. So I spent YEARS keeping an eye out for Brando's potential woman. I thought I'd never find her because most of the poms around here were 8lbs and smaller.

One day, someone advertised about their Big Pomeranian that she couldn't keep any longer. I drove to look at her and TADA! found Magic. Magic was destined to be Mrs. Brando. Why? She was huge. Like Shaquille O'Neal huge (hence, her name). And purebred, with papers. She was so big, Brando needed a ladder. She was so big, she dragged Brando around for a walk. She was so big, Brando gave me the most accusing look when I introduced her to him, that could only be interpreted as, "WTF is that, mom?" When she finally got pregnant years later, she grew to be 28 freaking lbs. For a pom, that's mutant. Brando was a beaten husband ;-).

Now, that's not only the reason why I call them my Mutant Poms. Magic gave me four kids during the one time she allowed Brando to...uh...take advantage of her. All her kids grew up to be 15 lbs. The girls lift their legs like their mom. The boy is a shy sweetheart like his dad and they both SQUAT like girls. The girls would not let any males near them; in fact, I have lesbian dogs because they hump each other when they're in season.

Then there is that weird thing with worms. Yes, worms. My mutant furbabies like to run around in my backyard on cool spring mornings, especially after a rainy night, scratching the ground like chickens and dragging wriggly worms out for breakfast. It's the most disgusting thing to see but I couldn't break these four puppies out of this nasty habit. In the years to come, when I added two more (including Bad Puppy Jiggle Low), I discover that they too love worms for breakfast. Ugh. I've come to the conclusion that I have chicken-dogs, which make them Mutant Poms.

The Mutant Poms, when Magic and Brando were alive, loved to pile on top of each other and sleep. They put their faces inward, so all you can see is this pile of moving, snoring cream-colored rug (yes, one of them snored like a man).

My Mutant Poms like to run outside like a pack of wild animals. It doesn't help that two of them have collapsed trachea, so they sound like grunting hogs when they chase each other. When it gets dark and I call out for them to come in, all I hear are snorting and growly grunts rushing towards me, like I have a brood of pigs about to attack.

I'm totally convinced there's some kind of mutant gene in them. That's why I'm so sad that the girls are lesbo-bitches. They're now too old to breed, anyway, and I can't afford cloning. I love my worm-scratching, hog-grunting, "three times the normal size" Mutant Poms.

TMI? Hey, you asked.

Bad Puppy II

Does that look like a BAD BOY to you? Think he's an angel, with no plans to make anyone mad at him? Well, some bad boys know how to look innocent.

So I woke up this morning at the sound of paper ripping. I peered over the side of my bed.

Jiggle Low is chewing on a book! From my Keeper Basket! (Yes I have a Keeper Basket by the side of my bed).

I went ArrrgHHHhh! And he went Yip, yip, yip, yip under the bed as I jumped off to rescue my precious. Sigh. Cover corner is gone. The book? LINDA HOWARD'S SARAH's CHILD. Bad, bad, bad child of mine.

I have forgotten the funny and exasperating travails of having a puppy in the house, since all the mutants are now adult dogs and MOSTLY well-behaved. Jiggle Low lives up to his name, let me tell you. No wonder his former mom named him that. He jiggles and and wiggles and streaks from one end of the house to the other 0-60mph. The former "baby mutant," Lilah, doesn't know what to make of him, especially since she hasn't yet realized that he's her gigolo ;-P.

But bad puppy must like reading. Linda Howard's SARAH'S CHILD is a pretty tasty story!

Besides the usual puppy training, this mutant pom is also in love with things three times his size. He has adopted Brando's Giant Stuffed Rabbit as his own. It is funny watching him try to drag the thing around by the ear.

The house is a mess. And he's driving the men in my life crazy with his territorial behavior ;-). You can't help but giggle at the sight of a tiny pup the size of Cabbage Patch doll headbutting big muscular males out of the way because the woman is HIS, dammit. Heh.

Ah, bad boys and bad mutant poms. They know how to get my heart.

KETCHUP and Uber Question

Another source has confirmed that Walmart and Target are cutting down on their midlist book buying. I was wondering: what books have you been looking for in the past month that you haven't been able to find at Walmarts and other discount stores like it?

For example, I was looking for Sasha Lord's new book. Not there. I ask my inde bookseller who does some buying there and she told me, besides mine, she was looking for Kresley Cole.

Let's make a list, 'kay?

RECALL OF MORE PET FOOD

Lick Your Chops Kitten and Cat Dry Food and Evolve Kitten Food have been recalled. Please be careful.

Grey's Anatomy Season Finale

This show is so brain dead, DO NOT RESUSCITATE. I hate, hate, hate where all the relationships have gone and are going. I hate, hate, hate the impending doom of adding on Lexie Grey, who looks too damn perky for someone whose MOTHER JUST DIED OF HICCUPS. I hate, hate, hate how they've destroyed all my favorite couples, including McDreamy and Meredeath.

Okay, rant over.

********************************

So I'm caught my breath back a bit and I'm going back to FYEO and resuming COMCEN's posts. I'd left it as it was for a while as readers absorb the now declassified VIRTUALLY HIS. Now that the identity of the monitor is out, you may ask all your questions THERE.

********************************

Yes, I know, you're waiting with bated breath for my debacle at Atlanta airport last week. ;-) It's such a long AND PAINFUL story, I need a big stretch of writing time to fill you in. This weekend, maybe? You will die laughing ***heading hanging***. I just know you will. No one suffers Delta and ATL Hub like I do.

********************************

Remember to give me the titles of the books you can't find at your usual friendly Walmart and Target.

What's Happening?

Yikes. Pet Treats are being recalled now! Del Monte pulled off some dog snacks from the shelves. I buy Del Monte snacks for my furbabies, especially the Bacon treats. I have never seen so many uneasy looks on the faces of those of us perusing the pet food aisles...many of us are talking to each other, trying to figure out which brand is safe now. The scary thing is, I don't think any of them are. Even though they aren't admitting it, I have a feeling they all buy wheat from China.

Oy.
Horrid thought: Do you think, since it's in the fertilizer, that WE ARE EATING this melamine stuff and it's in our systems?

Oy. I have to stop scaring myself every morning. Looking in the bathroom mirror is horrendous enough!

Last Call: If you are a romance book reviewer for a website and would like to read Virtually His for review (and clever snarkage), please email me at Jenn @ Gennita-Low.you know what. No spaces. I'll forward your website/contact info to my publicist. Serious inquiries only, please, since I have limited funds for xerox and postage ;-P. Making a copy costs about $9 per book and postage is $5 with return receipt. Times that with 50 copies sent out. Yikes. Now I know where my chocolate money went! ;-)

******************

I've been watching The Amazing Race because they're going to Malaysia for one of its legs. Last night they were in Poland. If you've been watching, there's a team in the show that has two harpies, Charla and Mirna, who really do A LOT OF screeching and screaming at each other and at the locals. They get on my nerves whenever they start one of their "talk to foreigners in a loud, accented tones and use 'my friend' to address" routine.
Anyway, at the end of the leg, one of them had to dress up in medieval armor and lead a horse for half a mile. Charla chose to do this task. Charla, btw, is a about four feet tall. The sight of her in a King Arthur armor. Falling Over. Leading a gigantic horse with the "thingie." Her horse obstinately stopping to eat shrubbery. I started choking at the thought of Charla screaming "Nih!" ala Monte Python and The Holy Grail. Mirna trying to tempt the horse with sausage. Charla splatting on her face again.

OMG. I'm so going to hell for laughing.
Wouldn't it have been De Bestest, if Phil, The Amazing Race host, dressed up like this while he waited at the finishing mat? I would pay to see that.
****************
More funny mean stuff: Did you catch the Saturday Night Live spoof of Sanjaya (American Idol finalist) singing, with the required sobbing "girl" looking on? Snort. You know you've made it into the cultural (UN)consciousness when SNL is spoofing you! You feel me, my sistahs and brothahs?
***************
Okay, I have a time for the signing in Rocklin, California! Here is the info:
Booksmart Books
6220 Stanford Ranch Road #100
Rocklin, CA 95765
916-782-2988
on 5 MAY 2007 at 2PM. I'll be there signing Virtually His and giving out prizes.
Hope to see some of you there!
