Today, four or five readers contacted me and forwarded me variations of this email from MIRA:
Dear *(personalized!)
Thank you for your letter regarding Gennita Low's works. We're happy that you enjoyed one of our authors.
With respect to the unreleased title, VIRTUALLY HERS, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is there are currently plans to publish this book. The bad news is that it is not due to be published until Dec. 2009 (with the third book Dec. 2010) so you will have to wait a little longer to find out what happens next in this series.
I hope that answers your question and thank you for your support of Gennita!
Sincerely,

ArggHHHhhh. This particular email was dated last week. ArggHHHhhhh. //headdesk
Okay. I'm going to go have some wine and eat bunches of chocolate now.
Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

::confused:: I thought they gave you back your rights? And why didn't they give you/your agents these definite dates during the latest talks??
::bellying up to the bar besides Jen::
If I know why they're sending these letters last week, I wouldn't be drinking my third glass of wine now.
((pouring another))
I'm totally confused so I'm going to just wait and see what happens next week. In a way, I'd rather Mira release you, Jenn, from your contract and give you back the rights to V-Hers and the rest of the Cos Commandos (if they have them)and even the rights to V-His. I see in ebooks how an author's book previously published by one epublisher is now published by a new epublisher under a different name and cover.
I know it's tough to have to get a contract in this climate but I believe there's a smart publisher out there who can recognise talent. And you could re-publish V-His and V-Hers and the 3rd book as a trilogy special. That's what I'm hoping and praying for, anyway, coz you're way too good to be left out there in the cold. If there's any way we can help that happen, let us know.
Ok, I am really really confused here. I have to ask this dumb question. Jenn is this good news that they are planning on putting the books out still or are they leading you on once again? I hope you get answer soon because they are treating you like a yo yo. Many hugs
Hi Sara,
I'm guessing that they have been sending this form letter out to various readers who have written to them asking about VHers. The slots are probably open ones that are available, IF the PTB/Bean Counters give the green light.
However, whenever my agent talked to my editor, the answer has always been, "There hasn't been any approval."
Without approval, the manuscript stays frozen, without my being paid. And I couldn't even sell another manuscript. That's why I asked my agent to get me out of the contract.
Last week's conversation/talk formalized that. But I'm guessing those letters were already out. Nonetheless, my heart wished that the powers-that-be had really given the green light and that those letters were actually true. Then my drinking wine all night tonight would have been accompanied by another lighter mood.
;-P
Elaine,
I don't think they're going to give the rights to VHIS back to me, till that part of the contract runs out. But if the contract is voided, wouldn't that mean what you're saying?
I should just ask my agent.
TBH, it's very, very, VERY difficult to get a new publisher for a series dropped by another. If I were Nora Roberts, yeah, my chances increase exponentially ;). But realistically? Maybe after I've sold my next book.
It's the nature of the business.
To give my readers these books, there are a few options available. But getting my career back on track is top priority now. So, cross your fingers for me for Grace Happens, 'kay?
Thanks for being so supportive. I appreciate your words of encouragement so much.
