REMINDER: VIRTUALLY HIS ARC CONTEST

LAST NIGHT'S YAWN FEST
Here are samples of last night's Prom Night At The Oscars.
1) Jennifer Hudson: Nice color but what's with wearing a size one silver satin jacket? Does it even keep you warm? Pockets are nice in a gown but walking down the red carpet with your hands in them? Not good.
2) Penelope Cruz aka The Golden Duck: It's muted bronzy gold, with enough feathers for March Of The Ducks. At least she doesn't have a peanut head like Jennifer Lopez last year.
3) Cameron Diaz aka Napkin Woman: Like I said, my mom would have approved. I can so see her lying on top of a giant plate with silverware.
4) Naomi Watts: In washed-out yellow. And too cheap to get an entire wrap. I did like her hair, though. Marilyn Monroe is back, have you notice?
5) Maggie Gyllenhaal: those strips of different material, I'm told, are called ARCHITECTURAL ACCENTS. She should beat her dresser black and blue for this.
6) Jennifer Lopez: She's the Grecian babe. This gown actually looked quite lovely on stage. But I don't know in this picture. High-waisted designs always makes one look either pregnant or out of proportion.
I couldn't find you Meryl Streep's Oscar Prom Dress. She's always good for a gulp. Send it to me if you have it.
So the boldest color was blue and everyone thinks washed out plum/mauve/puke is sophisticated. Yuk. Where are the usual hot glamor girls this year, anyway? Where's Charlize Theron? Halle Berry? Uma?
But we still have Gywneth, who's a hit or miss, depending on what she does with her boobs. I like this gown. It has ARCHITECTURAL lines. And it is different (no strips, no patches, no feathers, no glitter, no one strap, no overtightness, no strange combo, no washed-out vanilla yellow, no prom-night pinko). It's a nice Oscar dress.
Oh btw, I miss the bling bling this year too. Last year, we had enough to need sunglasses. I tell you, this year, everyone is thinking "save the world, save the diamonds." Sigh.
I shall always fondly remember this:
Or Kim Basinger, 1990, where are you?
Seriously, they knew how to dress for the Oscars back then.

Hey Jenn
You're pretty good at this indeed. I agree with you about almost everything. I didn't really like Jlo dress, too much material, I agree on Gwyneth, Weiss, Diaz..I didn't like Kidman, this red on that white skin was too much for me, and her totally redone face hurt me. Where I disagree and that I loved Penelope Cruz, I thought that Versace gown was stunning. I also loved Reese W., her gown and hair, she was lovely. For the rest, I'm with you all the way!
Laurence
Totally agree with you, Jenn. Cruz's dress was awful...'March of the Ducks' LOL! Unlike Laurence, I thought Kidman looked incredible but it could be because I loved her dress. Never been an admirer of Kidman so perhaps I was only looking at the dress and not the total image though I far prefer a woman to look immaculate for a formal and a so-highly-pubicized event such as Oscars Night than a mess - which I thought Cameron Diaz looked.
Overall, the dresses were terrible this year and yes, I was waiting for Charlize Theron and Brangelina. I switched off the TV before it ended so maybe Jolie-Pitt were on.
I don't know if you have different telecasts in the US but we only get the E! one. If that's what you were watching, did you notice this old guy in the background that was following the camera? Either he was stalkinng Ryan Seacrest or he's an actor who needs to get noticed. He was way too noticeable to be security.
Personally, I think the Oscars show was as boring as American Idol is turning out to be this year though at least the latter gets a chance to improve.
the third has her with nichole's dress for this year, but that looks like an afterparty outfit to me. i didnt watch so i guess its up to you if that brown drape (previous two pics) is from this year or not. i know its hard to find decent things to wear when your body ages but goodness http://www.eonline.com/celebrities/photos/?celebUUID=0bf3e636-2df1-48d0-a8b2-cdd48d46f6d3&uuid=6a6a8823-6404-4209-8cb7-ff8d3f70d43a&index=2#imageAnchor
George Clooney...best part of the show. I couldn't believr it either - Jen Hudson walking by George as if he were the jsnitor or Ryan Seacrest. Poor girl. How overwhelmed must she be by all this that's happened to her. I bet if you found yourself being presented with a Romantic Thriller Award by George, you'd ignore him, too.
BTW, has George ever hosted the Oscar Show?

OMG I can't believe that I was just over at the Black Thong Sisterhood and put in a comment after Phlexie's oscar roundup about missing the swan and Cher's nearly there outfits, come over here and you TOO miss the eccentricity factor. There was a comment over there from Aimee saying about your roundup and headed over to see what you had to say and .....waaalllllaaaaaah swans and Cher. Love you Jenna.
Hi Laur!
How was the trip?!
The top half of Jennifer Cruz's gown was awesome, but those feathers? Have. To. Go. Unless, of course, she plans to dust while Ellen de Generes vacuums. ;-)
Elaine,
Yeah, Oscars is getting so boring. I get drunker every year while watching it.. It's sad.
Kim,
They have MONTHS to prepare. And these clothes are, most of the time, free! Why didn't someone point out to them the obvious? Like--this color won't look good on stage, girlfriend.
Elaine,
I will never ignore George Clooney, even if he's presenting me with an award ;-). NEVER. In fact, I'll just pretend HE'S MY AWARD. heehee.
Chez,
Now you got me wanting to post past WONDERFUL AWFUL OSCARS gowns just to reminisce.
