FOURTEEN days to THE HUNTER in stores!!!
Or, Bad Boy Adulation Part Deux, heh heh.
So today i would like to give a short list of my favorite Bad Boy romance books. There aren't that many that fit my definition. Bad boys fall into two categories: the kind that was a bad boy, who still are somewhat bad, but they have, you know, a secret trust fund set up to help troubled youths or something, and, the kind that remains BAD (yum) and to hell with you if you don't like him (double yum).
Here is my list:
95% of Anne Stuart's books all the way back to the seventies, actually, but the few most recent ones that I really recommend:
Anne Stuart's BLACK ICE (of course! This is her baddest boy yet!)
RITUAL SINS
HEAT LIGHTNING (all rom. suspense)
Sandra Brown's SLOW HEAT IN HEAVEN (contemp)
Nora Roberts' FINDING THE DREAM (contemp)
Susan Forster's BLUSH (rom. suspense)
Rexanne Bechnel's DANGEROUS TO LOVE (historical)
Susan Johnson's OUTLAW (historical-romantica/Scotland!)
Kathleen Sutcliffe's DARKLING I LISTEN (rom. suspense)
I know I have more but this is all I could think of with one cup of morning coffee in the system. Surprisingly, Linda Howard (my other goddess) doesn't fit into this list. Although she is the mistress of alpha males (heh, I want to be the mistress to her alpha males too!), her men are too noble. None of them really are true bad boys. I can sneak in AGAINST THE RULES but it isn't one of my favorite books of hers. What's on your list? Help me add to mine!
My bad boy must:
1) always make me squirm at their actions, their choices, their 'tude
2) remain bad to the end, except where the heroine is concerned, and even then...he must continue to make me wonder whether he's really after something
3) accepts his badness, relishes it, and dares the heroine (me!) to go on the thrill of badness with him (no psycho-babble blame, please)
4) must take the heroine (and me) to the place she (and I!) don't want to go and with that continue to repeat #s 1-3
The next question is: What about bad girls? Why are there so few of them in romances and why do readers dislike them as the heroine? I have a girlfriend who thinks bad girls who slept around a bit with other men before committing to the hero are sluts and bitches. Double standard, imo. There is a version of a bad girl that just teases but not go all the way. Now, I think those are sluttier and bitchier! LOL. I can't read them because I feel the latter isn't worthy of my hero.
So, any bad girls heroines you can recommend me? I repeat--they are *hard to find in a romance novel.

Gennita, check out the bad girl in Lori Armstrong's Blood Ties. No, it isn't technically a romance because there isn't a HEA or a clearly defined developing relationship. It IS a gritty, intense, terrific mystery with plenty of heat. The heroine, Julie, is definitely a bad girl. You also know that she and her almost-lifelong friend Kevin should, as their friend says, do each other and get it out of their systems. The author also introduces a major league bad boy/bad ass and my hands almost melted holding the book when he made his first appearance. Can you tell I LOVED this book?
D. A.,
Oh yah, Sherri's bad boys are baaaaad ;-).
Thanks, Mary Stella, I will write that down on my list. Is it a suspense, with perhaps a little bit of romantic elements?
I thought Sandra Moore's Bombshell, The ORchid Hunter, was a pretty bad girl. Loved that book.
Really? I must see whether I can still get that...I don't read Bombshells since they seldom have enough male POVs or romance for me. But I'm trying to get a feel of "bad girls" in the genre so I'll try to track down this title. Thanks!
Strauchon,
But her heroines aren't bad enough for me...maybe it's just me???
