Post #2: You Have Got To Be Kidding Me

You all know I love me some Presents candy now and then, in spite of their titles, right? But this one?

The Sheikh's Virgin Stable-Girl?!

Arghhhhhh.

I have never felt any need to hide my romance books in public--the clinch covers, the bare chests, the women clinging the calves of muscled men. Those covers don't bother me at all. But. This title?
Sigh. ***Jenn running off to cry***

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

Please, please, please tell me this is a photo shop "fun with titles" kind of thing.

I have to be honest, I have never read these types of books and I have no particular interest in them either. Now that's saying something since I am a die-hard romance reader, but I just can't get into them. I find the titles off putting and the story lines never draw me in. It may be because the titles are not to my taste that the stories don't catch my attention.

Perhaps, just perhaps, i would read a book titled, "My Baby's Daddy's Other Baby's Mama's Brother is my Lover. . . Again"

Wow, talk about furthering a cliched and erroneous stereotype. Jeez. OK, Gennita, why are you finding these things? Wouldn't you rather posts more snippets about "VHers" and "VOne"? Wouldn't ya? :)

oh no :( and here i thought we'd come so far. my mother had some book, a harlequin, with some sheikh who had taken this woman prisoner and expected her to become his wife and all that. and she did. i'm still appalled by the story. i rewrote the ending in my mind she took off into the desert and escaped rather than be a slave of sorts. and those are exactly the kind of covers i make sure to fold over when reading lol [shrug].

ps im with ferah, would much rather hear about our super soldier spy chick than some sheikh's virgin slave *blech*

Deb,
This wasn't photo-shopped, sigh. It's part of a new series coming out and I was sent some promotional material because I read Presents. The title killed me...never thought I'd see the word "stable girl" on a Presents cover.

Presents is a different kind of book and not for everyone. I spent much of my teen years reading the British version, Mills and Boon. They were great--full of drama and passion and lots and lots about overseas stuff that I'd never have gotten from TV.

Today's Presents aren't the same because they are even shorter but I have a few authors that I keep up with because they're my guilty pleasure. For some reason, I respond to their writing style even though their Alpha Males are more like Cave Men.

Ferah and Kim,

As soon as I finish the edits and get back into writing mode, I'll talk more about Virtually One and what it's about. Happy? ;-)
