That was an eye-opening post, but while it's less of a problem here, there are still a fair number of men who have problems with women who are smart and educated. I think that number is much smaller in urban areas, and that it has grown smaller over the last two generations.

Vince! Where have ya been?! ;-)

I suspect the sitch here in the States is not too different. A majority of men I know aren't favorable about women who are smarter or more educated than them. I think it's an ego thing.

That was such a funny but astute post! It reminds me of the time I was in Uni: for more than three years my grandmother reminded me regularly to focus on my studies and not think about boys because it was my ticket to a better future. Then... a month after I finished Uni, she "casually" asked me if I had found myself a boyfriend! I was baffled, what's the hurry?

I reminded her that she told me to wait and focus on my studies - she just laughed and said, "Yes you have time yet, but don't wait too long!"

Mind you this was mid-90s Malaysia and we've always lived in the city!

Fanciful Fern,
I still get questions about why I'm single HERE in the States, so I think the West isn't as forward thinking as it's believed to be ;-P.
