Today we went shopping for printer ink at Office Depot and I finally got to touch a new Acer Aspire. $350! Can you imagine? For a fully functional computer that does email and web, with wireless and camera. TWO and the HALF POUNDS! It was the size of a trade paperback. Sigh. I so want one. So cute.
But not this year. Sigh.
UPDATE: Amazon has one with an offer--get their credit card and get $30 off from the purchase. That makes it $320. Argh. So. Tempted.
Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

I have one. ::grin:: And I love it! I only activated the web access because it doesn't have a disc drive, so you have to download/activate WORD online (they have a 90 day free trial thing with it, but I just entered the PIN# from WORD I have on the lap top, so I was good to go.)
Otherwise I ignore the web. I just want to write on it and not get in the habit of surfing.
So you're trying to make me jealous? It is such a nifty little thing and I want it so I can go traveling without lugging the 7 lb monster (and more, since it includes the gadgets and wires).
And the price is amazingly affordable. Except that I can't afford one, LOL, right now.
I played with it at Office Depot. The keyboard is a little bit too small even for my small fingers, so no typing fast, but hell, if teens can message with those tiny phone buttons, I can learn to like a smaller keyboard, dammit!
The size of what? I want one! Perfect for my purse.
No disk drive. That was the deal breaker for me. I'd have to lug around an external drive on my conference trips. :(
Kathleen,
Yes, you need to buy an external disk drive, but really, you don't have to lug that around. The external is for you to load some files in for when you travel. Really, the Acer isn't for everyday use other than writing and quick browsing/email. The keyboard is too small, even for me.
For that price, for the luxury of being able to lug the thing in a purse instead of opening luggage, taking it out, putting it back into carry-on, etc., it's worth it, if you can afford it. I wish I have the energy to sit outside Best Buy which is having a 50 percent off sale in Central Florida, but the line started forming YESTERDAY MORNING. These people were willing to miss Thanksgiving to buy their electronic gadgets.
I must not want the Acer that bad ;-). But you're right--Acer plus external drive is more than $350. Oh, I just thought of another way to upload files--just use a flashdrive! Acer comes with three USB slots. See?
Unfortunately, I need the optical drive to use my OED. I'm shopping for a replacement laptop. Mine is almost 5yo and has been giving me scares. :(
