Today, an acquaintance at Shit and Grits recommended me as a roofer for his neighbor, who's looking to replace his roof soon. This person called me and I went to his house to give a quote. After climbing up on his roof, examined its condition, and looking for possible rotten wood, I gave a summary of my findings and a quote.

This man looked me straight in the eye and said, "So my friend tells me you're a published author, with, like, six or seven books. Surely you don't need that much money. How about taking a thousand dollars off the price?"

I don't think I've ever lost roofing business on the account of me being a published author before. I wasted $3.25 on gas that I could have spent on icecream, dammit.

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

Holy crap lol. Just because you're an author does not take away from the fact that you are a roofer. Wow, what a funny guy. :D

lol, dang I guess that is the down side of being an author and a roofer. Sic No. 9 on him. Better yet send Sully, poor guy is itching for some action.

Psh. Someone needs to inform the public, there is NO money in publishing. I made more money pouring coffee at Starbucks than as an editor at a major publishing house.

I say you tar & feather the moron!

Oh, man. The guy owns a house and he thinks he's a charity case?

I second sq's motion. LOL What a moron! As if the two are even remotely related. And seriously, if you were making that much money as an author would you also be roofing?

What a jerk. You should charge him a $1,000 estimate fee!

Hazel, he wasn't being funny, that's the sad thing.

Lady Zannah, Actually, I've never had this problem before. Most of the downside is in the gender department, where they start talking down to you or they turn to one of the MEN to ask about the roof and pricing.

SQ, I'm always amazed and amused at how supposedly wealthy I am. that's news to me.

Kathleen, well, he thinks he deserves a break because apparently, I don't need the $1000 as much as him. Pft.

Monique, Maybe I love roofing. You never know.

Leilani, damn, girl, I should have thought of that. Just for the look on his face!
