Uber Spoiler Slut

I was a bad girl at Barnes and Nobles. I knew my order for Lilith Saintcrow's TO HELL AND BACK would be arriving at my home soon, but I couldn't resist picking up the book and READING THE ENDING. I had to know whether my girl ended up with her demon. Couldn't wait. Needed. To. Know.

So I stood there in the bookstore reading backwards for an hour. Because the last chapter was so good, you see, so I had to read the chapter before that, and then it was so good, I had to...vicious circle. I'm a speedreading monster when I have to be, so in no time at all, I had most of the spoilers I needed to know about TO HELL AND BACK.

Oh my. I felt like a guilty little girl when I put the book back on the shelf. I'm still looking forward to reading the book from the front. It'll still be a great read, only now I know I'll be happy at the end, heh.

Are you an ending peeker? Are you a spoiler slut? Must you know everything about the next book even though you have no intention to read it? Like the Karin Slaughter book, for instance, or the Cameron Dean's Candace Steele series in which the authors decided to kill off half of the romantic couples. Saved me a lot of heartache this way because I don't want to invest my commitment and interest in two characters in a romantic entanglement, thinking it's a romance, and have it end up as a tragedy instead, with either of them dead or their integral characters assassinated. I learned the hard way with the Anita Blake series, so, no more!

Back to the Danny Valentine books, I was biting my fingernails with this particular series, I tell you. I knew, going in, that it wasn't a typical romance, and that it could end badly because the author already killed off so many good characters in the heroine's life. I needed to reassure myself so I can decide whether I want to continue or not. That was how much I loved the lead male in this series, LOL.

It's the same with movies. I always read the spoilers so I know who died, etc. I know, I know. Many of my friends are horrified at this habit of mine too.

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

I am sooo the same way. I always read the ending first. After all, at least I won't have wasted my time getting all the way to the end and then hate it. LOL So, in case you were wondering, yes, I read the ending of VHis first. ;)

I too read the end and am biting my nails about the new Patricia Briggs as I've heard she picks her wolf in this one and ... aarrggh I know who I'd pick. Hopefully the book will get here tomorrow and I KNOW I will read the end first (and then have guilt)

Usually I don't read the endings first unless it's for a new book by an author who has lost my trust... like um...JR Ward. I'll definitely be reading that last chapter before I buy it.

Ooooh, you are bad. I've done that, too. LOL

I try not to b/c I get mad at myself when I do. LOL

A girlfriend and I just had this conversation too. We both are a read the back if it is questionable to make there is a happy ending. We figured with such busy schedules why read a book that won't make us happy but sad, frustrated, angry? Why waste that time when we could be reading a book that makes our toes curl, laugh, and come away feeling better from our escape from reality.

Oh thank goodness you posted this. I have been reluctant to read the last two due to paranoia it was all going to end badly.

I am another uber spoiler slut. The tall blond thinks its a bit crazy. He is also an avid reader and cannot cope with reading the end. I just think if an author has managed to get me to become attached to a character after several hundred pages, then she/he can jolly well not kill them off thanks! I also do it with movies, not into the whole unhappy ending palava/trimumph of the human spirit. Bleh.

Chez! I just got the new Patricia Briggs and it is now moved up the list big time. I know who I'd pick also!

I want to peek but I tend more to read thru the book real quick so I can get to it without feeling guilty. After I'm done I read it again but slowily so I can catch whatever I missed the first time.
Yeah it's weird but hey I like reading.

I usually read the first chapter or the first two chapters and then I go straight to the ending. Especially when I'm reading a thriller. And no matter what my mom says, it doesn't spoil the story for me. I just have to know... how it ends.

Monique,
I know you did ;-). Lots of readers did, wanting to know who the hero was. Ah well.

Chez,
I know some spoilers about the Briggs, teehee.

Leilani,
Funny how a tiny issue of killing off a heroine can create a mistrust issue like that ;-).

Casee,
Some friends are simply horrified at the way I read. It's not "reading" to them, which, apparently, is a linear activity.

SKKD,
Well, it depends on what type of book I'm reading. In a regular fantasy or horror, my expectations are different. But you're right, don't mess with my romance.

Sarah,
The ending doesn't tie everything up but our couple is together, that's all I'm saying, in case you don't want spoilers. It was definitely a great read, but our girl, Valentine, can be the stupidest Necromancer around sometimes.

Lady Zannah,
Yes, I read my favorite books several times, each time savoring it differently.

Iris,
I know! Why would knowing the killer change your enjoyment of the story? ;-)
