REMINDER: VIRTUALLY HIS ARC CONTEST
(SEE FEB 15 POST)

***********************

Still detoxifying but feeling better.

Whoa. That was some serious head spinning. I didn't eat much at lunch and had to explain to Ranger Buddy that I over-indulge. He told me that I'm now a real roofer.

At last. I've achieved roofer godhood. I put on my sunglasses and enjoyed my moment.

Here is an article about Harlequin Romance's partnership with NASCAR, with more books coming out about
RACING and ROMANCE. If the link needs a password, just type in Gennita and the password is rooferauthor.

Overall, I think it's an interesting venture, what with so many of the newest racing fans being women (some of whom are romance readers!). When I was introduced as a romance author at the race, I was asked several times whether I was The NASCAR Romance Author, like that was a title or something ;-).

I explained that I wasn't The NASCAR Romance Author but I do write for MIRA, which is part of Harlequin. Then, of course, I was quizzed about all the NASCAR drivers, as if I meet them at parties or something, LOL. It was funny, kind of like being asked what Nora Roberts is like, as if I know her in person.

Anyway, the article said these new books have no sex or car crashes since NASCAR is a family sport. LOL. No car crashes in racing?!! What was that sliding by me on its hood at the finish line the day before? Whoa. Thought it was an upside down car shooting flames. Guess not.

Have any of you read any of these books connected to NASCAR? How did they avoid any car crashes?

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

I've read a Roxanne St. Claire single title that had a crash. Or I think it did. I think I need to go check.

I also am reading Pamela Britton's trilogy.

So the new NASCAR books for Harlequin don't have sex in them? What's up with that?

The no-sex thing was part of the agreement with NASCAR. I think one of the reasons is that NASCAR[eventually if they don't already] want to be able to sell the books at races, which are family-friendly events-and want to keep it as General Audience as possible.

My feeling is, "that's great!" Romance is different for everyone and the gentle/mild audience deserves to be fed just as much as any other romance fan. Besides, there's still the "bodice-ripper" reputation that the romance genre is dealing with (hard to believe, I know) and the NASCAR line could help offset that a bit.

bummer. on the no sex thing. LOL

Casee,

So there was sex? I dunno, I was under the impression that the sex happens behind close doors, ala old Harlequin Presents.

Dee,

I know NASCAR is trying to make itself over as family-oriented and all that, but no car crashes?! I loved the old NASCAR a lot more, actually, when the drivers had personality ;-). And they did moonshine. And they chased each other all over the beach here when they were drunk. And they were able to say something and meant it. Ah well. I'm getting old.

Kate,

I know! No stick-shifting! Bahaha.

Yeah, but these weren't Harlequin's. I think Pamela Britton's series is for HQN. I'll have to ask a friend who finished the series if there is any sex-action in it.

Casee,
HQN is a Harlequin imprint (line), we're all sisters ;-).

Sex pretty much happens behind closed doors, but I will say that they're doing what pretty much nothing else has-they've gotten me to watch nascar :)

Pamela Britton's doing a really great job. With the way she's writing the books, you don't really miss the details, if that makes much sense? I'm also enjoying Roxanne St Claire's books(of course the first full nascar series book i read of hers had a former english soccer player as a hero *big huge sigh* ;) THERE I wouldn't have minded a few more details *snicker*

Pamela is a good friend of mine, and like me, a total NASCAR freak ;-). I'm glad you're enjoying her books. I still think a little bit of sex would sell the books even more! NASCAR has gotten so boring of late. I used to love the cheating, the fights, the bad press, the CRASHES....now, it's just all "we are good boys and listen to our sponsors..." Blegh.
