There's No Crying In Spying

Chaucer was right, you know. April is the cruellest month. But he was a monk thinking about sex and relationships. Taxes was probably not as complicated (although I'm sure the punishment of non-payment was a lot bloodier).

I need sugar. Lots of sugar. And coffee. Tonnage of it. Yes, yes, negotiating Agent Uncle Sam's treacherous codes is not for the weak. And of course, there are odd little problems, like, for example, I can't figure why the hell my new printer can't print my charts in landscape format. I set every single thing I could think of to Landscape and STILL the damn machine spits out my pages in Portrait format. Sometimes I hate technology, especially when they don't follow my commands.

Okay, end of rant. I do this to myself twice a year every year. Last minute Biz taxes, then put off Personal till August. You would think I'd one day learn to do these things a month or two ahead so I can leisurely hit PRINT and not try to kill myself with papercuts. Unfortunately, I've been hardwired to live on the edge of deadlines. And April 15 is the uber-deadline from hell for any uber-spy or writer who is self-employed.

Talking about hell and death, T.S. Eliot was pretty cheerful about April:

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
—T. S. Eliot, The Waste Land

Okay, so obviously he had to deal with Agent Uncle Sam too. I tell you writers are bitter, bitter people when it comes to parting with hard-earned money.

So, this weekend is going to be that fun for me. What about you? At least I won't have HIS problem:

Ow.

As for writing and tears, I stole this link from the incredibly talented Marjorie Liu. This is the saddest animated short I've seen in a while. I cried buckets. Click on link and then hit PLAY, then come back here so that you can cry with me.

Sniff***

Hey, I want tears, all right? My pain should be your pain too (even though I wrench it from you with a very sad story).

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

You're right. That's incredibly sad. The cat story, I mean. Not the guy caught in the shower door. I'm sure the guy is sad, but he should have realized before he closed the door.

It sure got me down. Beautiful, sad but I so love a happy ending!
Sorry about your week-end. I'm in Toulouse (south west of France) until tomorrow, where I'm being over-fed by my mom and enjoying the passover celebration. Sorry no taxes duties here but house renovation problems are coming back tomorrow...TMI?
:)

Hi Mary Stella,
That was a simple story, yet so emotionally told, wasn't it?

Hi Laur,
I remember hitchhiking to Toulouse! And Happy Passover! (do we say Happy Passover?)
