Alpha Males and Technical Hysteria

This will be remembered as the week of the technical and electrical problems. It started ominously with my truck (it's haunted, btw, but that's a topic for another day) refusing to start. Battery? Nope. Starter? Nope. Somehow, the electrical connections had decided to come loose.

The next day, my friend's router went kaput. He always calls me when he has puter problems, although I'm no expert and since he's far away, anyway, it's almost always difficult to explain to him the different things that he could try (he needs step-by-step instructions). Anyway, all my suggestions didn't help, so he asked me about the kind of router I had and then went and bought one himself.

The day after that, it was my turn. The FN + Function keys on my laptop have decided not to work. Function--unfunctionable. Great. I couldn't go into Hibernation with FN+F12. I have to do it another way. No time to deal with it, so after a scan, went to work. Oh, and I emailed your friend JOKINGLY, "Hey, it's your turn with technical problems. I had mine today."

Should have shut up ;-). Came home from work in the truck that had suddenly decided that its dome light would be ON for 15 minutes after I shut the door, don't know why, turned on my Functionless function key laptop and messed around with HELP and played with all the different properties, blah-blah-blah, and my cell phone rang.

It was my friend. His router, of course. There was some issues with MSN Messenger and he lost internet connection. Am I boring you? I assure you, I thought the whole week had been boring myself, but I did have an interesting conclusion about all this technical mumbo-jumbo.

Question: Why is it so hard for an Alpha Male to accept the fact that he doesn't know what he's talking about and the woman does? ;-) In this particular instance, anyway.

Question: Why is it so hard for an Alpha man follow instructions from a woman? AND not yell back when he's followed the instructions out of order and there are no immediate results. Like it's my fault....

Question: Why is it so hard for an Alpha Dude to NOT try something on his own when he's been told no, that's not a good idea? Like UNLOADING all his protection programs because he thinks that's the issue.

Sure, now he gets on the internet fine but he's a walking target for all things malicious. Like my techie GIRLfriend said, going online high-speed without protection is like fucking a whore without a condom. Her analogy, not mine. So now my Alpha Male is doing exactly that.

He felt he had achieved somthing. I gave a polite response. He rang off after he's asked instructions to do a System Restore. I gave him an option of doing a Restore-to-a-Point-In-Time, a less drastic measure. Who knows what happened after that...he never called back and I decided Alias and The Braves were more important ;-). After all, it couldn't be such a horrible night--both Sydney and my Braves were kicking ass!

I look forward to this day with a bit of a trepidation. It's MY TURN to get technical difficulties. Maybe I'll call him this time...soothe his Alpha pride ;-).
