Spies Update Their People Very Carefully

I finally sent out my monthly newsletter after a hiatus of six months. Sigh. Where did the time go? I titled the email: Gennita Low's Bi-Annual Monthly Newsletter, LOL. It has been, shall we say, a little hectic at the Low household?

How much information does an author share with her readers, anyway? Do I include news of my poor dog, Magic, who has gone blind from diabetes? Do I relate how she runs at full speed still and crashes into fences, walls, planters, rocks, etc., and doesn't seem to realize she can't see? Or do I just give a dry update about the upcoming releases and signings?

When I used to write certain reports, I had to choose what information to leave out. Certain facts weren't considered "usable" facts. And I wasn't allowed to give personal conclusions. In order to get a certain message across, I sometimes had to phrase certain facts in such a way that an analytic reader would be able to discern the conclusion themselves.

For example:
"With the use of ultrasound, there is a current trend to abort fetuses in China to uphold the one-child policy."
is very different when written:
"With the use of ultrasound, there is now a current trend among Chinese parents-to-be to abort female fetuses as a way to get around the one-child policy."

An good analyst crunching numbers for future cultural and policy trends for the next 10-20 years would be able to make certain conclusions to which the second statement would lead. I didn't know, at that time, that this was me practicing how to add subtext in plotting ;-).

So the newsletter is out, but now the problem is--after half a year, how many of these email addys in my list is still working? Some people change email addys like shoes. I, on the other hand, just keep collecting them!

I should always remember the spy creed: always keep your sources current! But then there is the Ranger Buddy Roofing Creed: just keep roofing; they'll find you if you're good. He should know; the man hadn't needed to advertise in the thirty some years he's been at this and we've never run out of jobs. So what's the subtext here?!

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!
