Spies And Leaks, and Other Deep Stuff

I didn't make an entry yesterday because I felt like celebrating! I finished the revisions for the third SEAL book, YEEEEeeeeeha! Revisions has never been fun for me, although some writers look forward to it. But I feel good about Sleeping (elipses* Bleeps*)--having written tightly, I had lots of room to add the scenes to give the story more layers.

So I turned on the television to enjoy some good shows. Wouldn't you know it--there was NOTHING on because every season finale has been shown last week. Gah. No baseball, not that I would have enjoyed watching the Braves Dugout throw away another game.

There were items of Spies and Leaks that caught this author roofer's attention, though. The news networks were full of stuff about Deep Throat, the Spy Who Responsibly Leaked To Reporters, which I found absolutely hilarious. This little nugget of news had never been a big secret among people in the know. Of course, they waited almost 30? years before they "revealed" it.

And the public falls for this old news, chewing on it for hours and hours, ignoring other news items that our media isn't reporting. Of course, not much is said about the fact that Mr. Felt, Deep Throat, was convicted in the '70s for authorizing illegal break-ins at homes of people associated with a radical group called Weather Underground. The same thing he was morally obligated to stop! He was pardoned by President Reagan in 1981. Hey, you would think he learned not to do illegal break-ins of organizations after his role in Watergate!

Always remember, spies have an agenda. I don't care which side they're on. Information isn't freely given to the media to, umm, uphold the Constitution of this country or another. Call me cynical. There were other reasons why stuff leaked out at that particular time, and I'm absolutely sure there are reasons why this piece of Felt Fluff is out now.

Ah, well, politics. Like Sponge Bob said, can you smell the smelly smell of something smell? Such as the perfume covering stale cigarette smoke? Stick with me, dudes. There are always secrets underneath the secrets ;-).

Did you know that reading the Deep Throat stuff and watching All The President's Men changed my life in the Seventies? That's right. I found out about Linda Lovelace and blowjobs, LOL. In Malaysia, where everything was fifty years behind at that time, it was very hard for a young teenage spy to procure information about things like deepthroating and blowjobs! No internet either, shucks. And you certainly couldn't talk about such subjects in public because that would be Very Unladylike. Forget about the dumb school boys in the bus too.

Other people received a higher calling to become investigative reporters and angry Democrats. In the course of investigating about this term called Deep Throat, Gennita Low found Harlequin Romances (called Mills and Boons in Malaysia) because they had love and sex in them! So in a way, Watergate has affected a little girl all the way across the seas. I wanted to become a investigative writer, too, but of...ah...other kinds of Hot Information. ;-)
