RIP, Liz Taylor. You were the first American movie star I recognized as a kid, besides Charlie Chaplin.

Besides Garbo, Dame Elizabeth Taylor Embodied Perfection For Me

For me, these two gorgeous creatures - Taylor and Garbo - as well as Bette Davis, Rosalind Russell, Audrey Hepburn, and Katherine Hepburn are my idea of movie star perfection. Each one different, larger than life, some meaner than a snake, others angelically wonderful, but all powerful alpha females of the screen. We're missing that in today's stars, but every once in a while I catch a glimmer in Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway.
They were untouchable, weren't they? Despite all the gossip, the public scandals, and peek into their private lives, they had that something that seemed to elude today's "stars." Closest today? Clearly Angelina Jolie is slowly getting that mystique (didn't have it in the beginning). Johnny Depp. And of course, you think I'm going to exclude MY GEORGE and MY GERALD? :D Heh.
Also, did you know Taylor's funeral started 15 minutes later because she instructed it so in her will? Heh, heh.
