Here's a intro video of the coverage of the Romantic Times Convention from 2007 (last year). The film, Reading, Riting, and Romance: Taming The Alpha Male, will be shown in its entirety in the Cut Film Festival in San Francisco next spring.
Let's hear your thoughts of this little video.
And oh, for a good laugh, you can see my beautiful back at 4:04 when Mr Romance 2007, Jason, gave me a rose and kissed the back of my hand. Tsk. Badjenn.

Honestly, I'm a little annoyed. Not sure why but I am. Maybe it's my allergies but it just didn't work for me.
PS in about 9 stories out of 10 I DONT write alpha males. *raspberry*
Amie,
I wonder whether the rest of the movie will have so much edited interviews? The slice and splice is all well and good for a Youtube promo but I hope the end product is more balanced. Certain comments appeared to have been edited out just to highlight the world "alpha male," for example. I remember seeing these guys at work in 2007, btw, in Houston (?).
Fredtastic! I'm not annoyed. It's a lighthearted video and having been to a few RTs now, it's pretty accurate and it makes me smile.
Anyway, since the video was entitled alpha males, it's not surprising they focused on them. I'm sure if someone wanted to make a video on beta males it probably would focus on them too.
I don't know about balance. The title tells you its point of view. I make videos about RT and what I write and romance from my perspective and it's just that, my perspective.
I enjoyed it. Makes me want to attend the convention to see the hotness and buy books! And what a lovely back you have, Miss Low...why was Mr. Romance giving you a rose? :o)
I'm with Amie, I saw this posted on Smart Bitches as well, and I can't quite put why it's annoying, just that it was... seemed off somehow.
Sad... they never really talked about alpha males and made it sound like all women read romance as an escape to a fantasy world (I read fantasy for that, btw) from their stodgy little lives. LOL Hey!! I resemble that remark. LOL No, really, I thought it was cute but wouldn't actually tempt to me go to a convention. Personally, I prefer alpha males precisely because they have the qualities so many men seem to lack in real life, you know like a backbone.
Lauren,
I wonder how long the entire documentary is. I'll try to remember to find it online ;-). I don't mind the subject matter being the alpha male. Sometimes, the interviewees give the impression that that's ALL they want, though, and that's probably rubbing some folks wrong.
Marisa,
LOL, I was on stage to ask Mr. Romance a question and he had to be as charming as he could.
You should try to attend one of the conventions if you like balls and parties, lots of mingling between authors and readers. It's quite crazy.
Mariana,
I'm sure a few readers cringed at the generalizations made by the filmmakers about the readers. The interesting thing to me is, Sharon Sala suggested this documentary to them, so I'm hoping they would interview her. The focus of the documentary, though, is really about the sub-culture of romance, so I'm sure it's meant to be "eye-opening."
Mo,
LOL. There is NOTHING wrong about fantasizing about alpha males. Good God, there are plenty of Neanderthal male readers there who want to be comic book heros surrounded by half-nekkid adoring women. I have a brother in his mid thirties who can still do all this kungfu fighting moves because of his fantasy of being one those flying kungfu heros. To each his own. Those who only make fun of a woman's fantasies have their own secret erotic pleasures, I'm sure.
