Because of technical problems (see title), today is ask Gennita a question day.
You can ask anything except when Virtually Hers is out because that's like the Biggest Secret In The World right now. Even I don't know. No one will say anything. See that dent in the brick wall? My head. It hurts. So no asking that question.
Anything else...well, okay, within reason...I'll do my best to answer coherently ;-). Questions like "why does the universe want to keep Gennita Low in the dark about certain DATES?" or "Is there someone in this world who is nefariously keeping a certain book from ever seeing light?" are profound and clever, and quite unanswerable at this moment in time.
;-)

Well Jenn, if someone is purposely trying to prevent the book from being published, I wish for them the Law of Three.
Having said that, I do have a question. Aside from the head desking apparently going on, how are YOU? And, more importantly, what can we do for you to prevent further head desking?
I have a question: what's your favourite pasta dish?
[And yes, I spell favourite with a 'u']
any question but that eh? ok well i sure don't know so here ya go: what should i do about a job; take the one with the guy i hated working for before, risk going up to norva and not having a job come feb, or just hang out and hope something falls out of the trees like my buddy is doing? ;)
just kidding. so when is virtually #3 coming out? ;-D
i spell favourite with a u too, i think it sounds more like its spelled that way. course it could be that i grew up in close proximity to canada.
Monique,
How am I? Right now or generally for the last sixteen months? ;-) I have been growing more and more frustrated and trying very, very hard not to show it. Why, am I losing the battle? LOL. I've been trying very hard to be as happy as I can because some things is out of my control and my rule for things like that is simple--do not worry. Easier said than done, of course.
As for what you can do to prevent further head-desking, sigh. Now, that's another hard question. How about if you pray, include/send some good luck my way? Or, if you're a Wiccan, how about blessing me with some extra white light or whatever that makes certain people magically find a slot for a certain book and will work EXTRA HARD to get that slot just for me? Is that too much to ask? LOL.
I'm fine most days, Monique. Some weeks, I just try not to let them get me down.
Thanks for asking about me ;-P.

Yovana,
My favorite pasta dish is shrimp marinara. If done right, I can eat that EVERY DAY for months. I also spelled favorite with a "u" when I first came here. It IS the correct spelling ;-). Like potatoe. Bwah.

Kim,
How desperate is your situation? And would moving somewhere cost you $$$ in the end? If you aren't in dire straights, I would advise to stay where you are because working for someone you hate means that it's not a long term job anyway. And if you spend all your money moving away, you might be stuck somewhere you don't like, working at a job you hate. Now that's misery.
When's #3 coming out? As soon as #2 is out, I can hound the universe for #3's coming out date, yes? Right now, it's already killing me that I CAN. NOT. GET. MY FREE E-BOOK BACK. TO. GIVE. AWAY. Arghhhhh.

So, how did I do? No one else wants to challenge my knowledge?
i was wondering if you have a book that you like the best out of the ones you have written, and if you have a favourite couple that you have written about.
i mean they are all great, but just wondering if you favor one a little more then the others.
I don't have a question but am sending good thoughts your way. The part of the business that's out of our control just sucks. We all experience it, but that doesn't make it any better.
Vanessa,
Not being diplomatic here, but I like my books the best depending on how I feel at the moment. I write my books out of emotion, so I respond to them emotionally. When I'm feeling especially hopeless, I tend to look very fondly at FACING FEAR or SLEEPING WITH THE AGENT. When I'm in a great mood, I grin at INTO DANGER.
Does that makes sense?
However, the couple that resonates the most will always be Rick and Nikki. They are two characters who took over my life when I wrote them and I gave much of myself to their book. Of all the books, I wrote FACING FEAR for myself because I had, at that time, decided to write a book no publisher would pick up from a novice unpubbed--all about taboo-- with rape, weird Asian historical references, an unlikeable hero with erotic needs, and more a psychological thriller than action, which wasn't popular then. I remember being quite in shock when Avon picked it up!

Helen Kay,
Thanks, sweetie ;-). I wasn't meaning to rant. I usually just put my head down and continue writing, no matter what. But with even my roofing career facing certain challenges, everyday is an exercise in finding happiness. I have a LOT to be happy about, so I don't complain. But certain weeks, things accumulate and overflow and doubt and self-pity win. I hate it when that happens.
Boxers or briefs?
:o)
Anonymous?
Well, if it's Gerry Butler, none of the above, heehee. Anything but the leather pants the Brothahs wear. Sooooo steeenky after they sweatttty. LOL.
How did you and RB meet and end up roofing together? What's the story there, or did you tell it somewhere and I missed it?
Right now, it's already killing me that I CAN. NOT. GET. MY FREE E-BOOK BACK. TO. GIVE. AWAY. Arghhhhh.
Eh?! If Mira hasn't made an offer for it, why can't you just take it off the table? If there's no verbal contract, I'd think it's yours to do what you will.
Theresa,
The short story: I met RB when I was VERY HUNGRY. LOL. Actually, it was at a gym, where I saw him everyday, working out like a maniac. After a few months, he asked me why I was there everyday so late at night (I always came in the last hour) and I told him I didn't have money to pay my electric bill so I was there to shower. I think he was shocked that an English teacher would be paid so badly, LOL, and took pity on me. Anyway, I started working for the dude and along the way, we became partners.
Kath,
It's a little more complicated. I'll just have to wait till after RWA to sort everything out.
((((((((Genn)))))))
So, what else are you working on?
Do you miss teaching?
Does RB's wife and kids know that you blog about him and if so do they mind?
Amie Stuart,
I'm trying to learn how to craft an urban fantasy, except that Kath has just informed me that it's pastiche, heehee. So, I'm still staring at this thing called fantasy worldbuilding and asking myself questions. I'm not good at plotting, always been a pantser, so this exercise is killing my creativity, so to speak. Any suggestions from you would be welcome ;-).
Miss teaching? Not really, but sometimes, when I'm teaching someone or a group, I realize how good I am at it. I have a passion in showing the importance of writing and reading, so I love to talk about that. Being who I am, I find that I have a knack in avoiding the academic sounding terminology and using layman language to show/explain literary concepts. I know RB better understands literary works and why people study them now.
Anonymous,
I'm sure they do, with a lot of amusement, I bet, because they sure don't view their husband and father the way I do.
Testing for you.
Hmm. Several things I don't like.
1) I can't preview
2) I can't subscribe via email
3) I have to have an URL (I typed your URL)
oops, wrong post! Well...now I can't see a "delete" icon either.
Genn.....world-building still scares the bejesus out of me. I think what really helped me was picking a fairly recent historical event and then changing the timeline from there. It gave me a jumping point and an explanation for a lot of backstory.
Contact Raine Weaver LOL Seriously she made me think HARD. REAL HARD. Funny enough having to world-build didn't kill the creativity for me. And I'm pretty much a pantster too. Now if only someone would buy the darn book *heeh*
There's also a book that Jordan recommended but I can't find it and I can't remember the name of it :(
