Book of the Week

Have a BUNCH of errands to do today and tonight. So, today's a book recommendation thread.

The Darkest Kiss by Keri Arthur

The newest book in the Riley Jensen, the dhampire, series. This is much, much, MUCH better than the last book, even though it starts out with slapstick Lucille Ball shifted-into-seagull Riley again. Why? because the new skillz of seagullity doesn't include the ability to fly. So, of course, Riley needs to practice and practice.

Okay.

Thankfully, this episode was short and we're back to Riley hunting the bad demons again. There is less the DNA-changing arc this time round (also good) and not much mention of past characters. There is barely any violent rape (very, very good! I was ready to stop reading because Riley kept getting raped in every book) and then Quinn returns (yay!), but only after page 200. So quit flipping the story forward (like I did because I wanted a taste of his Quinness) or you'll miss the twists and turns on how the two main monsters-of-the-book connect.

I love me some Quinn. And I so want to know more about vampiric-angels. Come on, quit teasing me about this and give the deets!

So, overall, I'm still addicted to this series. After massacreing Quinn's character to bring in a fake alpha wolf, I hope Riley and Quinn's relationship, now that they are back together again, will blossom into something that would explore their feelings for each other instead of the now repetitive "but you're not my twu soulmate!" conversations.

And the seagull skillz? Sigh. Still cracks me up and takes me right out of the story. It's just wrong. Like the thought of Anita Blake sexxing up a were-swan with feathered chest. Just wrong.

Okay, your turn. What book are you reading and did you like it?

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

Wow, what a coincidence. A friend loaned me The Darkest Kiss and I read it this weekend. I really liked it! This was my introduction to to Riley, so I can't speak to the earlier books. The seagullity part worked well later when she used it, and I also liked the introduction to a couple of new types of beings based on old legends.

It passed my two tests of what makes a book a good read - I didn't want to put it down even when I had to, and I'll buy it so I can read it again.

I'm reading the Buckhorn brothers by lori Foster, currently on Gabe's book. Sexy men stories are the best way to start the week.

The book I just got done reading was The Texas Ranger by Diana Palmer. Tomorrow I am going to start reading Heart Aflame by Johanna Lindsey

I'm reading In the Midnight Hour by some chick called Patti. ;-)

I read Lori Foster's Havoc and am getting ready to read part two..Hard to Handle.

I also read a book called Last Girl Dancing, it started out really strong, but she had the tough guy crying after the sex and he was suppose to be a martial arts expert...somehow HE forgot that toward the end and got beatup by a woman :)

^ Traci, prt two of the series is Simon Says and then Hard to handle! :) I read all three and I can't pick which is more delicious. ;) Three hot men in three different ways.

I have not been reading any books as of late, because I have been busy with a certain somebody. :)

Almost done with Mind Game by Christine Feehan. Fire and Ice by Anne Stuart is next. Can't wait to read Reno's story!!

Just read the three Troy books by David Gemmel. Wept at least once in each book! Character development surprised me - I loved the series. Next up is Poison Study for escapist reading and How to Cope with ADD kids, for non-escapist fare.

BTW, I was roofing a chicken coop/shed last evening, and do you professional roofers really rip those plastic strips off each shingle? Good God, I was there for hours, and still not done! Here's my theory, if the roof fails, the manufacturer can claim it's not covered, because installers didn't rip every last shred of that stuff off . . .

CECILY,

NO, DON'T RIP THE PLASTIC STRIPS OFF! Oh dear.

I loved the Troy trilogy. Fell in love with Heliakon & Andromache.

I just finished The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. Very very good! I am now reading Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole. Mmmmm...rage demons.

Sara, I loved Hearts Aflame. I think it is one of a trilogy. I read the other two but that one was my favorite. Love me some old school JL!

Vince,

You have to read the first five books and tell me what you think of a dhampire (who does it with horses and demons and alpha wolves and super butterflies) suddenly turning into a seagull.

;-)

BTW, I do recommend this series because it's very addictive. I was just turned off in the third and fourth books by certain elements that might not bother you.

Glad to see so many of you reading!

Leilani, I haven't decided whether to read this Anne Stuart.

Cecily, the Gemmells are indeed awesome. And did you read my reply above about your shingles? Please...don't pull off the strip!!!!

Sara, that's one of my favorite old Johanna Lindsey. All the best stuff!

Kim, yes, that Cade...I have the book and peeked a bit. Very nice rage demon ;-).

Vanessa,
I love the older MHs more too.
