Here is one of my favarite writers, the Divine Miss Dane. She gave a magnificent rant and I love her for it. Couldn't have said it better.
RWR is the RWA's magazine, sort of like our trade magazine, I suppose, and of course, the letters are from romance writers opining about the romance genre. Most of the time, it's quite a boring magazine. Sometimes, a few writers, like the one in this video, chimes in to scold other writers who write "porn" in romance.
Now, RWA has 9000 members, with quite a number of us writing hot scenes in our romances. When you write a letter like that, you're basically telling a large group of your peers off. And yeah, you do piss writers off even more if you're writing the genre and being high-n-mighty about it because you're basically turning around and giving the writing community, of which many are also readers, a view of your big behind.
But I leave it to the Divine Miss Dane because she is just Teh Awesome:

Very funny v-blogs! I get her point completely, though. I mean, I don't like westerns but I don't go around slagging them off to those who do. I don't like every book I read, and I know what my hot buttons are so if a book is about something I don't like - I just don't read/ buy/ borrow it.
Some people are just a bit daft, really. Instead of just whingeing over things that can easily be avoided, perhaps that particular lady could actually think of an insightful letter to write. One that encourages and inspires instead of one that puts down her colleagues and tries to belittle them and the contribution they make. ::sigh::
Some people are just haters. I bet you 50 these are the same people who were bitching about Chick Lit *eyeroll*
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you don't like what I write, you're obviously not my target audience. Just another reason I'm NOT renewing my RWA membership.
