Ha! I thought I was taking a nap at 8pm last night. Guess not. So I woke up at an ungodly hour and...wasted time. I played with blogger, trying to learn its secrets like David Carradine reads the Yellow Pages. So I put that new pic up just to see how it looks like. Ya like? I have no idea why it doesn't cover all the green and of course, spent unsuccessful minutes trying to do it. Gave up.
Then I found that I can change the font color, so maybe now the RSS Feeds will just show black and not some crazy color font I have to use to make it brighter on the blog! Now maybe Ms. Jordan Summers will be happily surprised when she comes back from her vacation (and dives back into Internetland).
Here is the list of books we all came up with for the romance course:
1) Paradise by Judith McNaught
2) Lover Awakened by JR Ward (those names and slang would generate a fun hour of classroom yak, eh?)
3) To Catch An Heiress by Julia Quinn
4) AKA Goddess by Evelyn Vaughn
5) Naked In Death by J.D. Robb
6) Son Of The Morning by Linda Howard
7) Playing With Fire by Debra Dixon
8) Somebody's Baby by Marilyn Pappano
9) Brazen Virtue by Nora Roberts
10) The Loner by Joan Johnston
11) Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux
I'm leaving the 12th spot for further suggestions today ;-). Thank you, Joannaimp, for suggesting my books for the course! I'm not putting them on this list, though, since I'm the one making it.
I love talking about the old school romances, the ones from years back that we still remember fondly and can pull scenes out of our memories. I know everyone hates the un-PCness of Sweet Savage Love but I love the first appearance of Steve Morgan, all Clint Eastwood-dangerous and flinty-eyed. I love the first Anne Stuart spies she wrote for Harlequin Americans. I love the wonderful Loveswepts (sob!). I miss my medievals. Gosh, if this class were filled with romance readers, we'd be having a grand old time gushing about old school romance, won't we? ;-)
And then, at the end of the course, we'll sit and stare at this:
**************
I finally finished the fourth book of the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur, Dangerous Game. I didn't like this book as much as the first three. Mainly, it's because of her being raped again. Can we have one book when the heroine isn't raped/forced? Her not being affected psychologically at all (I don't care that she's part werewolf, part vampire, okay?) by being violated by these really monstrous dudes AND THEN continue to have wild monkey sex with her mates drove me crazy.
Rape isn't a hot button for me, like it is for some readers, but dude, Every Book? Also, it's going into everyone-must-lust-after-the-heroine territory. Lastly, the way she treats the main hero, Quinn, who's 12,000 years old or whatever, makes her look like a 12 year-old. Not good.
I still recommend this series for those who enjoy urban fantasy. Fast-paced and addictive! Warning: NOT romances. And the heroine using her werewolf nature like she has bunny genes can wear you down. She sure gets turned on mighty quickly and easily! Luckily for werewolves, they can't get STDs; if they did, Riley would be one sore bitch. Just sayin'. ;-)
Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

Gennita, I love the list for the romance course! Judith McNaught's Paradise is my favorite contemporary romance of all time.
I have to agree on the Keri Arthur, was not as keen on the 4th installment.
I LOVED Loveswept. Some lovely used to bring them into the country here in NZ and I used to pick them up from the 2nd hand store when the son was younger. Was like my weekly outing before I went back to uni. *sigh*
Steve was my 2nd romance ever. *sigh and drool* I pinched it off my mums bk shelves and read it in secret when I was far to young. LOL! That and *These Golden Pleasures* by Valerie Sherwood. (the title of the Sherwood always cracks me up!).
Sign me up for the class! I love the curriculum and textbooks! I wouldn't even mind doing homework for this class. :)
I think the list needs a classic Julie Garwood, Saving Grace is my favorite but one of her scottish romances would be better for the course. When I think classic, timeless romance I think Julie Garwood. They're timeless and as my tastes change those books still bring me great enjoyment.
Loved the Riley Jensen books but yeah, the 4th book not as much and I agree on her and Quinn.
PS: Love the new header. There is supposed to be somewhere in the css that you can get rid of the box but i can't remember, it's all trial and error for me. I would suggest making the pic bigger though to try and cover it.
Oh my gosh...am I really at Gennita's blog? Must check again. Yep, it says it's her blog, but it's so clear and readable. Sigh. My eyes are rejoicing. *ggg* ;)
Love the new header!
Hi Farrah,
Thanks for dropping by! There seems to be many Paradise fans out there.
Hi Sarah,
Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking about that in Book Four. And I have quite a number of Loveswepts on my keeper shelves! Great, great books by some great, great authors.
Hi Ghlutthon,
You know, I can't spell that name without adding a ton of "h"s ;-). About the homework in this course, would it include food?
Leiha,
Are you going to read the fifth book? Do you think she's going to be all-powerful, all-sexy, all-everything?
Jordan,
It might take me a while, but surely and slowly, I'll learn how to do techy stuff ;-).
Leiha,
No matter how I try, I can't make the top green bar to disappear. The pix just kept getting bigger! LOL. But I did manage to widen it. So you think it's fine the way it is--not too gawdy?
I think it looks great not that you made the pic bigger. The header peeking out at the top doesn't bother me. i had that problem with my blog but can't remember how I fixed it. If I do I'll send it your way.
