Mid Year Uber Book Report

It's the midpoint of the year. Let's take a quick poll:

Any book that you've read since January that kicked all kinds of ass and made you sit up?
Me: Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs

Did you find a new author? If so, who?
Me: Elizabeth Vaughan, Colleen Gleason, Keri Arthur

What's on your TBR pile that you keep hesitating to read? Why?
Me: Meljean Brook's Demon Angel. Everyone says I have to pay attention because it's an "intelligent" read, so I keep thinking I need more time.

I'm looking forward to: ________
Me: Cherry Adair's newest.

What are you tired of?
Me: Vampire hunters. Just a bit. The heroine is morphing into a werewolf/weresomething now, though ;-), so my love for urban fantasy is still strong.

What are the three books on top of your TBR pile?
Me: The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt; Gideon by Jacquelyn Frank; Haunted by Linda Winstead-Jones.

It has actually been a really great year of reads for me so far! I just wish I have more time to get to all the books people keep talking about. It's so hard to keep up! I had to skip several of my J.D. Robbs and instead read the latest one out in paperback, Born In Death because I was so behind. ::pouting:: I keep looking longingly at the latest Kuschiel offering from Jacqueline Carey but no time to do it justice. So many books, so few hours a day....

Bear with me while I learn. The first button likes the POST. The second button likes the BLOG site. Please help me by "liking" me. Thanks!

Been waiting for it all year:

Any book that you've read since January that kicked all kinds of ass and made you sit up?
Me: No Humans Involved, Kelley Armstrong; Night Lost, Lynn Viehl; Moongazer, Marianne Mancusi(it's ALREADY looking well loved...); Into the Dark, Cindy Gerard; Devil's Right Hand, Lilith Saintcrow; The Leopard Prince, Elizabeth Hoyt

Did you find a new author? If so, who?
Me: Cindy Gerard, Lynn Viehl(and her many incarnations), Meljean Brook, Deidre Martin, Elizabeth Hoyt:)

What's on your TBR pile that you keep hesitating to read? The second book in the Dante Valentine
series. Loved #3...but I read it out of order, so I'm probably thinking I don't have to read two...eek. That and a Breath of Snow and Ashes. Bloody huge thing. *sighs* Also the last two books in the Kim Harrison series.

I'm looking forward to: ________
Me: Virtually Hers, Devil May Cry, Bloodfever, Force of Nature, White Heat,

What are you tired of?
Me: Vampire brotherhoods. With special languages. *growls* If I see one more author trying to be JR Ward, I'm going to scream.

What are the three books on top of your TBR pile?
Me: These are the books sitting in my bag(they take the train with me...) Colors(non fiction about the history of color), 'Exit Strategy' Kelley Armstrong and the second Dante Valentine book.

Any book that you've read since January - Patricia Briggs too, and Kelley Armstrong...and yours! Mainly because they were so totally different from other things I've read this year. Dare I say I am getting a bit tired of some paranormal stuff?

Did you find a new author? If so, who? Elizabeth Vaughan, she so rocks. Elizabeth Hoyt, maybe Kresley Coles historicals, love them and Marjorie M Liu.

What's on your TBR pile that you keep hesitating to read? The latest Kim Harrison. Not sure I am so keen where the series is heading.

I'm looking forward to: The next JR Ward, your one and the new Karen Marie Moning and whenever the next Liza Valdez appears and the latest Grave book from Charlaine Harris.

What are you tired of? Paranormal romance where its been done before, seems like a direct copy of someone elses work or is just not so great writing but had lots of hype.

What are the three books on top of your TBR pile? Kresley Coles latest historical, If you ..., SL Veihl 6th Stardoc book and Lynn Veihls latest vamp bk.

Fanciful Fern,

Yeah, I glommed on the Arthurs too! All within a month. Same prob you had.

Glad you found Marjorie Liu. She's fantastic!

I like the Reread With Glee additions! And are you a Cupcake or a Babe? I'm a Babe.

Stacey,
I want to try Lynn Viehl one of these days. My friends told me that they aren't really romance or hot, so I keep putting it off.

What, you don't feel the new vampire lingo, no? ;-)

Sarah,
Another Lynn Viehl fan! Tell me about her.

Taking a page from Fanciful Fern, any "reread with glee" books?

Book I read since Jan that made me sit up and take notice: JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. (I was never interested in vampires or werethings. But now I can't seem to get enough!)

New authors: JR Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Nalini Singh, Marjorie Liu, Lara Adrian, Shannon Butcher to name a few.

The book I'm hesitating to read is Brenda Joyce's Dark Seduction. It sounded good in the store, but at them moment other books are calling to me first. lol :)

I'm looking forward to: Force of Nature (Brockmann), Devil May Cry (Kenyon), Virtually Hers, Caressed by Ice (Singh).

Three books at the top of my TBR: Woman in Red by Eileen Goudge, Blue Ice by Anne Stuart and Lindsay McKenna Commando.

Lynn Viehl writes as several people. The 2 I have read are Lynn Viehl and SL Viehl. The 1st is a vamp series and the 2nd is a space opera kind of series the 1st of which is called Star Doc. She has a really interesting blog I like to have a nosey at regularly here
http://pbackwriter.blogspot.com/

My re reads with glee at the moment are JR Ward. I am such a binge reader, if one is coming soon from an author I do series re reads. Or, if I've just read one that rocks I'll go back and re read their backlist. Quite a zippy reader so it does not take long. Linda Howard usually features there too. Love her older ones.

Any book that you've read since January that kicked all kinds of ass and made you sit up?
Me: erm... nope. But there were several books I loved.

Did you find a new author? If so, who?
Me: Karen Rose, Megan Harte, Megan Chance, Katie McAllister, Keri Arthur, David Wellington, Wendy Corsi Staub, Maureen Jennings... erm, that's all I can remember. :)

What's on your TBR pile that you keep hesitating to read? Why?
Me: Meljean Brook for the same reason you listed. :-P

I'm looking forward to: ________
Me: Lisa Valdez, the new Karen Rose. I know there's more just can't think of them off the top of my head.

What are you tired of?
Me: Nothing at the moment. The stuff I'm tired of *hearing* about--paranormals, romantica--I prettymuch stay away from unless the story/characters sound really intersting and the author voice works for me.

What are the three books on top of your TBR pile?
Me: I'm in the middle of several books at the moment, for some reason. Last night I was reading an old Anne Rule novel. Possession, I think it's called. Has a real Sidney Sheldon vibe. lol.

It's been a hit and miss year, either I get stuck with a bunch of 'meh' reads, then I hit the motherload with an amazing read (Karen Rose and Keri Artur come to mind). I've also been rereading from my keeper shelf and those books (mostly JAK and Lisa Klepas) still hold their magic for me.

The book(s) that I read this year that kicked all kinds of ass were the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr. Virgin River, Shelter Mountain, Whispering Rock. Lurve them.

New authors this year: Robyn Carr, Sarah McCarty, Linnea Sinclair, Alyssa Day.

What's in my TBR pile that I'm hesitating to read? Darkfever by KMM. I'm just not into 1st person. I've had it for months and months.

I'm looking forward to: Linda Howard's new one and Christine Feehan's next sister book. Hannah and Jonas.

What am I tired of? I'm tried of paranormals. Don't get me wrong, I love them. But there's too much out there these days.

The top 3 books in by TBR pile are Chain Reaction by Dee Davis, Safe Harbor by Christine Feehan (out tmr), and The Sun Witch by Linda Winstead Jones.

Jenn, about Lynn Viehl...these books are hot. Maybe not the 1st book in the Darkyn series, but the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are. She also writes as Jessica Hall and the two books in her New Orleans series are so freaking hot. I love re-reading those books.

Gennita said...

Wow, Casee, you have many on your list that's new to me! I'm writing their names down. As for Viehl, okay, you sold me her books. I'm getting the Darkyn books next time I'm at the bookstore. Thanks for the recommendation!
