Well, Blogspot ate my wonderful post and I'm not in the mood to recreate my brilliance ;-/.
I was giving a remarkable account about mid-novel point blues and zzzzappp, the cyber monsters took a big bite and there went the beautiful paragraphs on which I worked so hard. Which about summed up the whole writing day, actually.
Quickly, in short, I had been having a bad writing week. The Muse has been doling out words like Mr. Scrooge give out Christmas pennies. I'm drowning in my own plot. I'm spluttering for air.
Why? Well, I'm in the middle of the story and instead of the big action scene, the point where Hell shows her teeth, she's decided to...well...test something out. So now I'm sitting here going, how do I go where she wants to go? Because going there would solve some problems and create more. I'm also afraid my readers are going to be falling asleep waiting for the big action that I've been building and building.
And it's too darn late to delete the whole mess and start again...because...well, because I'm going to NYC in ten days and I need ten pages a day in nine to make deadline! ;-) Besides, I never delete. I trust Muse. I trust Muse. You HEAR ME, MUSE? He has never let me down. He just like to give me a heart attack now and then. Like right now.
So, Hell is on her way to her first test-mission, and instead of me-writer going into action scene, she's diverting into another way of solving the problem, which is not really action at all. I have fought with my characters in the past but Hell's being mean. She's bringing in Alex Diamond into this scene and who can say no to Alex?! So, I'm writing a scene that seems to be leading deeper into inaction.
The problem with this book is, I'm introducing the commandos one by one. It's fun and it's scary because you don't want to have a book about shaking hands. Each time a commando shows up, he has to have a reason, as well as play games with your (the reader's) head whether this is the hero. So each scene has to be a scene stealing one too.
So, I'm going to take a deep breath and do it Hell's way instead of my sort-of plotted out "Hell after article of interest, Hell retrieves AOI, Hell gets in trouble while running with AOI, Hell goes berserk-kick-ass, Hell completes mission after a few dangerous obstacles". Simple, huh? The trouble is, I know where I'm going but getting to these points is the problem.
Did I say it was fun? Not today. It's bang my head on the laptop day. Type a few sentences. Repeat headbanging.
I trust my Muse. Really.

Trust your Muse. Alex? Good. More "Viruses?" Good.
Do you remember Facing Fear? Nikki & Rick. Aaahhhhh, Rick. But I digress. Not a whole lot of action in that one until almost the end of the book but it worked for me. It REALLY worked for me.
You know, there's all kinds of action. There's the physical kind with car chases, and shooting, and body pummeling; then there's cerebral action. Does anyone else out there want to ride the roller coaster that is Alex's mind and demeanor?
Trust your Muse. You're headed in the right direction.
Dee
thank you, Dee. Mwah.
